How to Install an Ice Maker

I have a Kenmore refrigerator into which I want to install an ice maker. It has never had an ice maker in it previously. A plumber is coming to install the water line. I'd like to install the ice maker myself. Do you have information available about how to do that? (The instructions that came wth the ice maker left a lot to be desired.) Thank you.

If the ice ejector (the plastic part) is pointed down and not pointed between 10 and 3 o' clock the ice maker motor has failed or somethin is binding. Replacing the ice maker is probably the best bet.

I believe the tube that pours water into the icemaker tray is clogged with frozen water and can not fill the tray and your fridge can not make ice. You have to unplug your fridge and let the tube to defrost. It is a long tube (about 1.5 foot) and using a blow dryer may not do the job. You can unscrew the the gray plastic cover at the back of the fridge and pull out the tube and let it defrost and then put it back.

SOURCE: Kenmore Coldspot w/Ice Maker Not Making Ice

hi LOP7,
In most cases you can easily solve this problem.
step one would be to make sure your freezer is getting cold enough. If you have icecream in your freezer is it frozen solid or is it soft. Most icemakers cycle around 0 degrees and if your freezer is not getting to 0 then it will not cycle and it will not make ice.
Step two would be to make sure you icemake is cycling. To do this simply lift the little shut off arm on your icemaker and wait about an hour then go back to the icemaker and drop the arm down. The icemaker should start going through a cycle. You should notice the arm slowly begin to raise and the ice dispencer fingers will begin to turn. Then you will hear it call for water. You may hear a humm.
If the freezer is cold enough and the icemaker is cycling that only leaves the inlet valve. replace the valve and enjoy the ice.
If the freezer is cold enought and the icemaker does not cycle, then you have a bad icemaker. Simply replace the icemaker and viola.
Third if the freezer is not cold enought 0 defrees. Then you may have a defrost problem. In this case post more info and I will be happy to help. Good luck

SOURCE: Brand new Kenmore refrigerator, ice maker does not work

According to the manufacture, you must wait 24hrs to reap the benefits of the automatic ice maker. I was helping a friend the other day install a water line to a side by side unit that had been running for well over a week and after turning the water on we got no ice. We contacted the manufacture and they said "there is a 24hr waiting period". This makes no sense. I wasn't trying to get a gun permit, just ice.

Pressure difference between the two water supply systems is the cause of the overfill condition. You may have to install a water pressure regulator in line to the ice maker water supply. Or you can try to control the flow by throttling the supply valve to the refrigerator.

Please help

Are you installing a ice maker kit? If the ice maker is already installed all you have to do is connect it to the potable water supply in the back of the refrigerator and lower the bail arm to put it into operation.
