The compressor being hot means it is getting power to it. 2 possible problems. The compressor is locked up internally (too expensive) or the start relay or overload could be bad (approx cost for both parts about $45). You have to decide if you want to risk $50 and still find out you have a bad compressor. Most service techs have a direct test harness to hook up to compressors and make them run without the start relay and overload but not everyone knows how to do it properly.
I would say that the motor is humming because it is not turning and the click is when the overload control switches the power off. It may be a start run capacitor blown out but it may be a seized compressor motor. have a fridge mechanic check it out.
That clicking sound is the compressor trying to start, if it is less than a year old just call magic chef and they will replace the unit, if not the cost of a sealed system repair may make it not worth reairing
its the ptc relay go to repairclinic.com...type in model #...its a cheap and easy fix.if you see what the part looks like on line youll find it on cooler.should be left of compressor behind black plastic cover with 1 screw
You have either a bad capacitor or a bad compressor. If I were there I would put a part on called a 3 in 1. It's made by Supco. It replaces your relay Overload and start capacitor. If the compressor is good, it will fix your problem. Click on this site and you will see the part I'm talking about. It's very simple to put on. http://www.appliancepartsonline.net/index.php?target=categories&category_id=50 The part number is RCO410
Please rate this solution and good luck!
Unplug and look for the thermostat control. Try jumping thethermostat wires together. If it runs then replace the thermostat. Also feel the compressor to see if running, they run very silently. Thanks, Sea Breeze
can u hear a humming sound as if it is trying to start then it would stop after a clicking sound?
if it does then it is your compressor trying to start but can not do it.
you could either have a problem in your starting relay of overload protector of the compressor or the compressor itself is the defective part and it needs to be replaced.
