When I bought a SATA Hard Drive for my second computer IDE slot, I purchased the only type of IDE-SATA dongle they had in stock. As it turns out I got the one for a SATA BUS to an IDE Hard Drive. Is it reasonable to use a gender changer on the end of the IDE ribbon connector [Master Position if need be] to interface with the dongle I have? I presume that the SATA and IDE bus and Hard Drives interface universally with their own type of BUS/Drive. The computer is an eMachine T2896 and the hard drive is a Seagate 1TB 3.5 Inch 32MB Barracuda Model Number: ST310005N1A1AS-RK. Any recommendations would be helpful.

How I solved the SATA IDE Dongle problem: I looked up various devices that perform this task and I found that some of them are bidirectional with a switch attached to them to internally facilitate the necessary configuration change. I plan on buying a PCI card with SATA ports to accommodate my switchover as it makes it easier to have my previous secondary drive connected so I can easily transfer files and provides a means of having more than two hard drives on my computer should I find the need in the future.
