Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven
The Microwave was installed by the builder in our new home in March 2006 and has been working fine. Yesterday it lost all power then came back on by itself within 15 minutes. Now however it sounds different. The motor doesnt sound as crisp as it was. Also, it cuts out from time to time almost like its over heating. Do I need a new mw or can this be fixed?
This is usually due to a defective or failing magnetron.
When failing, they can emit interference that disrupts the control circuit, or if it has a thermostat on the magnetron, that will disconnect the power until it cools down.
You can save about $50-75 if you remove it from the wall and take it to a GE-authorized servicer. You can find one by calling GE Appliance Service 1-800-848-7620.
Removing it from the wall is ideally a 2-person job and you should have your installation instructions handy. If not, you should be able to find them here: http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/literature/
If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk
