Question about Frigidaire FGF316 Gas Kitchen Range

1 Answer

Oven temp I have read possible solutions to my problem here, but not sure if they apply to me. I can preheat oven for 2 hours, no matter what temp, and still remove the metal racks by hand. I have lit the oven manually, but still only holds a low flame. All of my burners work fine. My confusion is, even with manual lighting, the oven does not heat properly. Any advice?

How old is it? Does it have a pilot light or is it an electronic ignition or coil? If it has a pilot light you probably will need to replace the thermostat.

My self cleaning oven will not lock, so I am assuming it is broken. My oven needs to be cleaned. Since you can not use an oven cleaner on it, what can I use to clean it?

  • 1 Remove oven racks and soak them in soapy water
  • 2 Turn on your automatic oven cleaner; this usually entails locking the door and turning the function switch to "clean."

Oven does not get to temp when it says its preheated

More than likely, its your oven thermometer thats taking a half hour to read correctly. The oven is probably getting there sooner. If you had a digital thermometer, the read would come quicker. So save your money, nothing wrong with your stove.

Temp on oven is not correct

    Good Evening.

I would make sure that the conversion kit was the correct kit for your stove. Also, if it is not heating properly I would call the gas company and tell them the conversion did not work and they need to double check their work (at no charge). If everything is in order proceed to the next step below.

You can try removing the Oven Temp control. There is an adjustment on the knob which will vary the temp + or - 75 degrees F or so.

Procedure: Preheat your oven for 350 degrees F. Give it a good 1/2 hour to 45 minutes and then pull the knob off (usually held on with a set screw) You will need a thermometer that will go up to 500 degrees (I use an electronic one but you can use any kind as long as it is within the ovens temp range. If the oven is underheating simply turn the oven control stem to a higher setting, say a 50 degree incrament. Wait another 1/2 hour and measure temp inside oven. Keep in mind when you open the oven door it affects recovery time, etc so 30 minutes between a measurement and adjustment should suffice. Once you have adjusted the temp control to your target temp of 350 degrees look on the back of the knob and see if there is a stop adjustment. There is a chance the temp control knob could be setup differently but the same philiosphy/procedure will be similar.- the adjustment could be on the stem itself instead of the knob.

Also keep in mind that the oven temp will fluctuate from high to low as it tries to adjust to the temp it is set at. That is why it is very important to give the oven time to cycle low to high when you incrament the temp control. Hope this helps and good luck! Gary

    Preheat takes forever
click the link  Oven temp sensors sense the temperature is the oven cavity and the temp sensor changes resistance, this change in ohm resistance tells the oven control what temperature the oven cavity at and tells the control to shut off the element or turn it back on. The most common temp sensors used today ( *not all ) are approx 1000-1100 ohm resistance at room temperature ( 70F )
Some ohm readings and there temperature:
    Degrees F    -   Resistance
                100 - 1143 ohms
                 200 - 1350 ohms
                 300 - 1553 ohms
                 350 - 1654 ohms
                 400 - 1753 ohms

15 yr-old GE electric oven takes over an hour to preheat to 450

After jiggling the lower burn element the oven heated up in the normal time. Perhaps a connection had come loose.

    Oven heat

The problem with you oven is the FFD (flame faliure device ) also known as FSD (flame safety device) The way is works is that when an oven is ignited first time the heat from the low level flame heats phail at the end of the calliary tube which in turn increases the pressure within this tube forcing open the FSD valve to open allowing full gas through. when this fails it restricts the amount of gas flowing through it leaving the oven with a small flame. these are easily repalaced but the law says it must be done by a corgi registered engineer for gas safetey reasons...But 110 % that is your fault.
