Question about Dell Dimension C521 PC Desktop
let me explain first why it's making a clicking noise. Inside your hard drive is a mechanical arm that allows reading/writing stuff to your hard drive. the mechanical arm is loose thus making a clicking noise and might have damaged the platter. use this link for your referrence http://www.pantherproducts.co.uk/Articles/images/hd_lables.jpg . what needs to be done to recover your files is to take out the platter and put it in a working hard drive. I'm pretty sure that you dont have the tools to do so and your gonna need a zero dust environment to do this kind of procedure. i would advise to call drive savers. 800-4401904. to set your expectations, it actually expensive but if you have critical data there then its worth it. if you need more time for back up call dell with the same case number and ask for extended return policy for data recovery. if you want to erase your files before sending it to dell then attach a powerful magnet to the drive.
Hope this helps.
