I'm assuming this is a microwave unit. Never run the machine without a load--cup of coffee, any kind of food or beverage, but never use any kind of metal object. No-load or metal within the cavity can cause the microwaves to arc, burn local areas, or kill the magnetron output due to overload. Unplug the cord, then open the case. Short out the high voltage capacitor (a can with two terminals standing up) with a screwdriver for safety. The magnetron sits on a sort of pedestal and has fins to get rid of heat. A sheet metal channel (called a wave guide) runs from there over to the cavity. Just over or beside where the microwave energy enters, there is inside the wave guide a metal fan-like device called a 'stirrer'. The stirrer scatters the energy so there are no 'hot spots' in the cavity. The stirrer also has a plastic bearing that the microwaves can sometimes arc through and short out the energy thus blowing a fuse. Anyway, remove the waveguide and look under it from end to end for any scraps of metal, wire, or other stray material. This area must have only the stirrer in it. Check the stirrer, spin it to see if it wobbles up and down (it should not) and if the bearing is clean. Check the magnetron that it is mounted tightly. Reassemble everything and test the machine. holy **** clean that thing, its probly aluminum residue. watch out a leaking microwave can / will kill you hopefully the seals are ok.

dont even microwave items that were wrapped in aluminum foil just the residue can cause this.

have you ever microwaved a cd? take one and try it polishes them nicely.
