Yes it is. If you are competent with a fine tipped soldering iron it is quite easy.

The part is generally available from any good electronics component supplier.

Take care if you do it yourself as there may also be some fine board traces in or around the socket that could be damaged if you are not careful.

If you are not comfotable and need ethernet on that laptop consider a USB to CAT5/ETERNET adaptor

DELL LATIDUDE D505 JUST FLASHES AND GOES OFF WHAT DO I DO

First how many flashes? How many beeps? Probably due to that line of latitudes, the motherboard has gone bad. Ive replaced many of those series main boards due to cheap junk they put out before fully testing them. But, you need to count the flashes and beeps to see for sure. IVe replaced dell latitude D620 main board more timez than i care to count due to trashy design. I imagine the D505 is in that same line of garbage. <;0)

How do I get access to the soundcard on a d505? Soundcard not working - may have simply come out of slot. headphone slot got knocked before failure.

Notebooks and laptops have built in sound and not a separate card, unless it is extremely old. I expect the headphone socket is faulty due to the knock. I also suspect the software will show sound but nothing will play due to the broken socket.
These are fairly cheap to replace. Take it to a qualified Dell dealer for service.
