If there is a window or optical sensor you should be able to remove it, clean it out, and replace it. These are often the last part to fill with toner and create a light path block.

hi you error code is referring to the fixing film in your fuser unit is not aligned, in other words its moved to one side and the sensor is detecting it as not aligned. order a new fixing film and replace it or order new fixing unit.
E3-40 is a toner density sensor error. It's probably toner getting built up on the sensor. It's located under the drum. It will look like 2 little LED looking things on a little circuit board about 3-4 inches long and half an inch wide. You can blow it out with canned air. If that doesn't work, then the sensor needs to be replaced.
