Try to repair os installation it might be happening due to some driver conflicts . in safe mode only basic drivers like keyboard mouse etc will work other device drivers have no role in safe mode try it

My dell xps one keybooard is not working

first, uninstall it completely. Change your batteries. Turn off your computer. Boot up, log on as administrator. Install the software for the keyboard, now plug it in and the add new hardware wizard should see it. If that doesn't work take it back to the place of purchase for an exchange. It is a hardware issue at that point.

Acer laptop keyboard and touchpad not working Have had the acer aspire 5100 laptop for two years. Would not boot up. Sent to have fixed under warrany. Came back the boot up was fixed but now the keyboard...

The Acer service centre have probably not connected the keyboard and touchpad to the motherboard. Common mistake by Acer. It is best to send it back to Acer to have it fixed under warranty as if you try it yourself, the laptop could be rendered out of warranty. Good luck... :)

I take it that you have a wireless mouse.
Myself I prefer the ones that plug into the console.

The monitor is defective and should be repalced. Keyboard and mouse pad problem could be a driver problem. Try to reinstall their drivers.

Keyboard and mouse not working

it is likely the keyboard or mouse is putting out erroneous data and windows is then ignoring the ports,
try disconnecting the mouse pad or the keyboard and run with only one connected at a time if re-seating them has no effect.

there is sometimes a combo of software that may also effect the keyboard mouse input.
click on run / type msconfig
uncheck load startup group items.
click ok,
restart , check don't show this again.
and test system.

Keyboard/touchpad problem.

The keyboard and touch-pad are connected to an internal USB interface, If no USB interfaces are working at all this suggests that the USB host controller (a physical computer chip) has failed.
You can try a chip-set reset; disconnect both power and battery and hold down the power button for 30 seconds (timed), this will reset all chip settings to default and discharge any static buildup but this is in no way guaranteed to fix the problem. If the laptop is still under warranty arrange for repair.
In the mean time most of the Aspire 5100 series have a PC card slot on the side so you could use a USB or PS2 host card to connect a keyboard and mouse.
