Stereo system in 1994 ford explorer

I bought a sub , amp, and wiring kit for my explorer. A friend of mine hooked it up and isnt working. It has ground power and battery power. The lights around the radio were solid now dim depending on how loud the radio is bt no sound to the woofers. The guy I bought them from had all of it hooked to his truck let me hear it and just disconnected it and gave it to me so I know it works.. Any suggestions would be most helpful thanks!

I had this same problem.Took it to a friend and we bypassed the amp completely and ran new wires to all the speakers.

How do install car stereo system

if you are are talking about an amp and subs simply get an amp istalation kit take the big red wire and hook it to your battery with the fuse that should be in the kit, thats going to go into the b+ on the amp take the black wire and find somewere near your amp with a bolt going into the car seat bolts work the best, this is for your ground. the little blue wire goes from the back of the radio at the remote wire to the rem inlet on your amp.i always put mine on a toggle switch so if you dont want it on you can just flip it off.To do this just simply run a 12 power wire into the switch and your remote wire coming out of the switch. Finally hook your spearkers into the amp red is posotive black is negative.thats all there is to an audio system.

How to hook up an amp to a car

remote turn on wire( blue/white) from stereo to amp. RCAs from stereo ( sub out) to amp. Power wire (fused) from battery to amp. Ground wire from clean, paint free chassis to amp. Speaker wire from amp to speaker. ( simplied version). Do you have an amp kit? All the wires, connectors and the fuse will be included in the amp kit. They are rated for the amps power output; 0,4,8 gauge.

I hooked up a stereo system for a friend last night, and he has a 250 watt power acoustic amp, and he bought a 1200 watt amp wiring kit, is the wiring kit to powerful for the amp, because i hooked it all...

As I said in the previous post no the wiring kit is just fie. Yo uwill need to change the inline fuse and that is about it. The problem exists in how you have your subwoofers wired and what impedance is being presented to the amp. Please read my previous response to your your post.

Need to hook up bass system to 1999 ford explorer can anyone assist me

Probably need an installer - depends on yr/make/model of car - stereo and wiring diagram for sub system. There are lots of questions need answering and if not installed properly, you can certainly damage the stereo, sub system. Subs use a lot of power and improper wiring could cause problems, even fires !

Troubleshooting amp setup

You probably need your remote wire re-hooked and make sure the ground wire is good and the remote wire is connected to the right wire(the red wire).

Cant figure out my car audio problems!!!!!

There are a couple of tests you can perform. I'd first recommend checking the shield ground. You'll need an ohm meter. The details can be found on the following page.

RCA shield ground test

You can also test the output with the multimeter. Set the multimeter to AC volts. If it's not an auto-ranging meter, set it to a voltage range of ~2v AC. Disconnect the RCA cables from the head unit. Touch one meter probe to the outer ring of the head unit's RCA jack. Touch the other probe to the metal contact in the center of the RCA jack. With the head unit near full volume and a clean signal source, you should read at least one volt on musical peaks. If you have a bass disc or a test tone disc (~60hz sine wave), use those.
