I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NS240E and it keeps locking up and will not let me do anything, even in safe mode. I want to do a complete wipe and restore but have lost the factory disc. Do you know how I can get these?

you will need the restore cdrom's to fix this issue. sounds like you the wrong upates! you should only updates that come from the sony web site for your particular sony item. refer to sony tech support.
You should restore and/or reformat it after you take the info off it.
You will have to get another copy of your operating system if you don't have a restore disc.
Please download each file in the Computer to a folder. After that open the folder where the file was downloaded and double click to begin the installation. Then, please follow the onscreen instructions to complete the intallation process. Make sure that you restart the Computer after each installation. Installing all the above Driver/Utility in the correct order should fix the issue with the Volume/Brightness Function Keys.
I'm sorry. It is not possible to upgrade the Inbuilt Video card. However, the Computer is shipped with the Express Card/54 slot. You can contact your nearest favorite dealer to get the Express Card slot supported Video card and install in the Computer. This improves the Graphic performance.
if you recently installed a software or a component, that caused the issue. if removing it or a system restore while on safe mode did not work, please consult the link below for some laptop DIYs
Hi there. Choose "LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION" if it still won't boot up try "SAFE MODE" and perform a system restore and take the computer back a week or so.
Are you doing DESTRUCTIVE recoveries or are you doing NONDESTRUCTIVE recoveries? Try another hard drive in the machine and recover to that. Nondestructive recoveries replace the operating system without destroying the personal data. Its possible the original problem is propagating over to the recovered systems. Do a destructive recovery. Understand any data not backed up will be destroyed. Possible the original problem was a trojan virus.
