First open your device manager to make sure the hardware and the drivers are functioning properly. control panel add printes or other hardware, then system will be in the upper left side menu. then click on hardware, and then device manager. if it's working you'll see it under network devices but if not you'll see a yellow question mark that says ethernet controller. click it then click 8uninstall then the found new hardware wizard should start up for you to just reinstall the hardware.

hope this helps. keep me posted.

You didn't post the Sony Model number or the OS you are using? Have you tried , unplugging, remove battery, plug in, reboot? Open the Control Panel , select Device Manager, scroll down to Network Adapters, open, do you see the Wireless Adapter? Is it enabled? Try to Update Driver. Have you done ALL your Windows and Sony updates? If the Network Adapter has a red X in the Tray Notification Area, it's there but not connected. Click on the Icon and see what Available Networks appear. If your wireless is working, Choose your SSID, enter Security Key and connect.

How do I turn on an acer aspire wireless switch?

Sony's Sony Vaio laptop features built-in wireless LAN adapter that allows the computer to connect to any wireless access point. If you want to adjust the device's WiFi settings, you must use the proprietary software and hardware that comes preinstalled on the laptop and the Internet connection options that come with Windows. Once you have all of the correct settings enabled, you can have your laptop connected to a wireless access point without any additional applications.
Enabling Wi-Fi with Wireless LAN Switch b> Before you can connect to a wireless network or change any of your Wi-Fi settings, you must first enable the computer's Wi-Fi feature with the wireless LAN switch. This switch is located directly below the laptop's screen and is labeled "Wireless." Once you have located the switch, slide it into the "ON" position. b> Enable Wi-Fi in Vaio Smart Network b> Once Wi-Fi has been enabled with the wireless LAN switch, you must enable Wi-Fi using the laptop's proprietary wireless connection software, "Vaio Smart Network." To access this program, click the "Start" button in the computer's task bar and select the "All Programs" option. Select the "VAIO Smart Network" option to launch the program. Alternatively, you can click the VAIO Smart Network icon in the computer's task bar to launch the program. This icon is in the shape of a green button with two white arrows on it. Once in the application, click the switch to the right of the "Wi-Fi" heading to toggle it to the "ON" position. Windows Connect to a Network b> With Wi-Fi enabled, you must connect to the wireless network using the "Connect to a Network" feature that is a part of the Windows operating system. Click the network icon in the computer's task bar to bring up a list of the available wireless networks. This icon is in the shape of a computer and an Ethernet cable if you not connected to a network. If you are connected to a network, it is in the shape of signal bars. Select the desired wireless network from the menu that appears and select the "Connect" option. Enter the networks password if necessary and connect to the network. b> Network and Sharing Center b> If the wireless network that you want to connect to does not appear in the "Connect to a Network" window, you must connect to the network manually. Click the network icon in the computer's task bar and select the "Open Network and Sharing Center" option. Click the "Manage wireless networks" option, followed by the "Add" option. Click the "Manually create a network profile" option and type the network's information in the spaces provided. Place a checkmark next to the "Start this connection automatically" option and click the "Next" button to connect to the network.

All netbooks have both the wired and wireless networking capability built-in. The Acer Aspire One AOA 150 Model No. ZG5 (8.9" screen) netbook has a RJ-45 jack on its left side for wired 10/100 Ethernet. On right-most part of its front is a slide switch to toggle enabling/disabling of the built-in 802.11b/g WLAN for wireless connectivity to WiFi. Click on the following link for a detailed description... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspire_one
Pushing the wireless slide switch to the right momentarily will cause either Wireless LAN Enabled or Wireless LAN Disabled in large green letters to appear momentarily at the bottom middle of the screen. Once enabled, look at the Taskbar at the bottom right of the desktop and click on the little terminal icon with ))) and a little red x beside it. This opens the Wireless Network Connection window and you would then do the following...
1. in Network Task sidebar click on the Refresh network list to update the wireless networks
2. in Choose a wireless network on the right side, click on an item in the list to select & hi-light it
3. click on the Connect button to get a pop-up window for Network key & Confirm network key
4. if unsecured network, the pop-up reminds you of the risks but you can Connect Anyway
5. in the pop-ups, you can click to either Connect (for secured), Connect Anyway, or Cancel
6. when connecting, another pop-up window appears with Waiting for the network
7. once connected, the selected network will move to the top of the network list

I have sony vaio S. but the wirelees is not working no wireless host shown. how can i fix it?

Selecting the wireless function Follow the steps below to select the wireless function to be activated when you set the WIRELESS switch on your computer to on. Double-click (wireless switch icon) on the Notification area at the bottom right of the desktop. The Wireless Device Switch dialog box appears. Hints The appearance of the wireless switch icon changes depending on the selected wireless function. Point to the wireless switch icon to display the selected wireless function. Alternatively, you can right-click the wireless switch icon and select "show Wireless Device Switch settings" to display the Wireless Device Switch dialog box. Select the desired wireless function from "Wireless LAN" or "Bluetooth Device". Notes 5 GHz Wireless LAN is available on certain models only. You must select at least one wireless function to perform wireless communications. The 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wireless LAN functions employ different frequency bandwidths, thus are not compatible with each other. Checking the check box for both "Enable 2.4 GHz Wireless LAN" and "Enable Bluetooth Device" may cause poor communication performance or a connection loss due to electromagnetic interference. Click OK. The message "Setting up the wireless devices. Process may take several minutes. Please wait." appears first, then the Wireless Device Switch dialog box is closed, and finally the dialog box that describes what to do with the icon on the Notification area appears. Note While the message "Setting up the Wireless Devices. Process may take several minutes. Please wait." is displayed, do not: place your computer into power saving mode. turn off Windows or log off from the current user. turn on and off the WIRELESS switch. Confirm the settings and click OK. The dialog box about the icon on the Notification area closes. Hint If you check the "Don't show this dialog in the future" check box, the dialog box will not appear next time you close the Wireless Device Switch dialog. To analyze the network condition You can analyze the network condition if you select either or both of the wireless functions under "Wireless LAN" in step 2 above. Click the "Diagnose" button to start Windows Network Diagnostics. When the network analysis is complete, the result is displayed. If any problems are found, follow the on-screen instructions. Hint Windows Network Diagnostics is the function to identify problems the network has and present solutions to them.

Hi can anyone help please, my acer 5050 wireless is not working, just installed windows

1. locate the Wireless communication switch/indicator at the front of 5050 just left of headphone jack.
2. slide switch momentarily to the right.
3. you should see "Wireless LAN Enabled" in green letters at the bottom of the screen
4. a little screen icon should appear in the Taskbar at the bottom right of the screen
5. if it has a little red x beside it, right click on it for more options.
6. if it has no red x, you were automatically connected to a wireless that is open (no security enabled)
7. with the red x and after the right click, in the pop-up, click on View Available Wireless Networks
8. in the Wireless Network Connections window, if no list then click on Refresh network list
9. click on the SSID name for your wireless router to Chose a wireless network
10. click the Connect button to connect to the high-lighted network
11. if your wireless router has security (WEP or WPA) enabled, a pop-up will ask for the network key
12. enter Network key and repeat entry in next line to Confirm network key and click Connect button
13. the little screen icon should no longer have a red x beside it
14. hovering the mouse cursor over the icon will get a pop-up with wireless connection status

Cannot connect my acer 5600 wirelessly. WIFI is not lighted on. It says to turn on wireless switch.

The wireless switch is on the front edge of the laptop. With the lid closed, its position on the front edge is just under the right latch of the lid. Turn on by sliding the switch to the right momentarily. You should see Wireless LAN Enabled in large green letters appear briefly at the bottom of the screen. A single screen icon should appear in the desktop's Toolbar at the bottom right of the screen. If the icon doesn't appear, then likely the Wireless Network Connection is disabled. To enable do the following steps....
1. click start button at bottom right of screen
2. click Control Panel
3. in the Control Panel window, click Network Connections
4. right click Wireless Network Connection
5. on the drop-down menu click enable
If there is no Wireless Network Connection in the Control Panel's Network Connection, then the setting up of the Wireless Network Connection was skipped when the laptop was first unpacked and setup. In Control Panel, click on the Wireless Network Setup Wizard to setup the Wireless Network Connection.

Wireless switch

Although the wireless switch on your Acer does turn on/off your wireless card, you will also need to make sure that your operating system (Windows) has the wireless card enabled.

Do the following:
  1. Go to Control Panel (Start -> Control Panel)
  2. Double-click Network Connections
  3. Right-click on Wireless Network Connection / WLAN (you can tell it is disabled if the icon is greyed)
    3dce7ab.jpg
  4. Click on "Enable" (if you see Disable, your network is already enabled)
You should check the bottom-right-hand area of your screen (in the menu bar) for your wireless icon. If this is not appearing, you'll have to go into Network Connections again and do the following:
  1. Right-click on Wireless Network Connection (your wireless network adapter)
  2. Select Properties
  3. Click the checkbox that says "Show icon in notification area when connected"
    685e49b.jpg
  4. Now click on the Wireless Networks tab (at the top of this dialogue box)
  5. Scan for a network and connect to it.

IT DOESNT WORK OUT

Sounds like your wireless is disabled.

If your using windows xp, check the following.
Go to your start menu
go to your control panel (might be under settings, might not.)
from control panel, if it says "Choose a Category" click switch to classic view.
open your Network Connections Icon.
If "Wireless Network Connection" is grayed out, right click it and choose, "Enable."

In Windows Vista
Go to the bottom right hand corner of your screen to the icons.
Right click on the double monitors (network connection)
Select Network and Sharing Center
Click on Open Network Connections
If "Wireless Network Connections:" is grayed out, right click it and choose, "Enable."

If it is enabled, and you already have wireless built in to your laptop, then it's possible the wrong wireless card is enabled. If this is the case, when you open your network connections, you will have two Wireless Network Connection Icons.
A Wireless Network Connection, and a Wireless Network Connection 2. Make sure 2 is enabled, and the first one without a number is disabled.

Let me know if this helps.
