Sorry but I know of no place you can get a legitimate copy of XP for free. You can buy it for around $90 but be very careful and make sure it is not a pirated copy or you will have problems. Buy from a legit web site. Beware of used copies where the code has been used too many times. You will have a hard time getting the OS activated and may end up not being able to. Get an OEM version like this. Here is one for $88 with free shipping which is about as cheap as you will find a legit copy with a good code.
well copying the files may be the problem! for instance you need a recovery cd or dvd if you made one and use that to reinstall ur OS like the day you bought it!
try making or getting a windows installer disc then either install ur original OS like home or professinal or use the repair feature that shoud install all the drivers and .dll file you need
Better open up ur case [while it is switched off],check the cables of ur HardDisk take them out and put them back again. Then also check ur RAM try pressing it a little into the slot.Solves my problem most of the time.
If someone else has a copy of Windows Xp Home for you to use, you can use their CD with the key provided on the label on your machine. You do not have to use the CD that came with your computer. Just note, you may have to install drivers separately.
have you tried turning off the computer and turning it back on and tapping either F11 or F10 until it loads System Recovery and that should take you to Windows System Recovery and then you can reinstall windows. Let me know how it goes!
Have you created the Recovery CD's? If so, put the recovery CD in the disc drive and restart your machine. Most notebooks start from CD first and then from hard drive. If not, you could change that in it's BIOS. (Press F10 at the moment you see the HP Invent logo).
When the disc boots it allows you to choose from multiple options. Choose the options that sounds like "Restore factory defaults" or something like it.
The D-partition is only used to create the disc and hold info. There is no software there to run for recovery.
I hope this helps, if you need more help just ask. I work at a company who is an HP Partner so.
