Question about Samsung HT-Q80 System

3 Answers

The display on the front of my HT-Q80 is not working?

My two year old was playing near my receiver and the remote controls and now the front display doesn't work. Sometimes it will be a blank screen and other times every possible light turns on. So when I change functions it won't display anything. The functions work, it's just that I can't see anything displayed so I have to just blindly hit function until I get to where I want it. Please help.

My display only flashes on for a second when I turn the power on, then goes out.

I have the exact same problem

  • denverdude Jan 18, 2008

This just happened to mine as well. The screen is all lit up and I cant determine the function. I also have the cooling fan making noise. I believe something in the circuit went bad, cause I smelled some kind of burning from the inside. Time to replace it from what everyone says.

I will report anything if I can.

same problem, display lights everything up.

  • Yocash Apr 15, 2008

Yes, I do have the same problem, all the lights on the display are on, everything else works OK. The problem started when I tried to turn on the unit using the front panel power button, I could see and feel an electrostatic discharge when approaching the unit, it is the only piece of equipment in my entire life that has done this.

Same issue here. My wife said she felt the electrical discharge and then it was all lights on the display all the time.

Same problem here. My wife had the electrostatic shock deal happen to her and now all lights are on the display. This needs to be addressed.

  • Crystalj Jan 18, 2009

Exact same problem after going to plug in headphones to the unit and had a big static shock hit it. Sever lines in the display went out so I immediately turned it off, waited a bit, then turned it on. The entire display stayed lit up. Now, it works but entire display stays lit. I have an email in to samsung tech support but don't have much hope because it is out of warranty.

I have the same problem and think we should file a class action law suit against Samsung to get this resolved.

What a POS, only 2 years old. Will not buy a Samsung HTS again! Guess it goes to the crusher!

  • eracer001 Apr 08, 2009

I also was shocked by touching the volume knob... Immediately my front display lights went out... we should consider a class-action suit.

Send it in for repair. My wife had the same problem as a couple of others (static discharge when she touched the unit-then all display lights were on all of the time. All of the functions still worked-you couldn't tell what you were looking at.
Cost me $50 to send it in the way they wanted it pcked. They fixed it for free. Happened right after the 3rd year warranty I got from Sam'as expired. Works now!

I have a onkyo by r540 receiver with a rc 649m remote. I have a manual for the receiver, but none for the remote, nor can I locate one. Do you have a programming instruction for an onkyo rc 649m remote

The Onkyo RC-649M remote was included with the Onkyo HT-S790 (with the HT-R540 receiver), among other sound systems. The directions for using this remote are thus in the HT-S790 manual. Onkyo has this manual here: . See pages 13-17 for information on using the remote. Look at page 69 and the subsequent pages for the remote control programming directions and code list. To program the remote for a specific device, press and hold the Mode button (TV, DVD, etc) that you want to program. While holding this mode button, press and hold the Display button (the lowest button on the left side of the remote) for 3 seconds. Then enter the 4 digit code that applies for your device/manufacturer. (If there are multiple codes, you will need to test the remote and try again until you find a code that works.)

I hope this helps.

We have "HT R670" and "HT R360" A/V Receivers with questions regarding Universal Remotes and Android Apps.

The Onkyo App will not work with the HT-R670. This receiver is part of the HT-S6200 Home Theater package and is not network compatible. You might be able to use the Logitech Harmony Hub and app or another remote control app paired with an IR repeater pointing at the receiver. Some universal remotes may support changing the inputs on the receiver. However, I don't know of any specific model that will work. The Logitech Harmony remotes are probably the most likely to support the Input button; it may take programming a specific button to match the receiver's Input function. If you need a replacement for the original remote, one source is . The manual for the HT-S6200 is available here: .

I can't find an Onkyo HT-R360 listed even as part of home theater system. There is an Onkyo HT-RC360. The manual for that is . While this model has a network connection, it is not compatible with the Onkyo app either.

I wish that I had better news for you.

The Onyko TX-DS595 receveiver won't respond to remote.

When unit is on hold down vcr button and press standy power button. display will read 'CLEAR". turn back on and see if remote works. note that this will erase any of your settings. Point the remote at any camera and look at the camera display. If you see a white light when you press buttos remote is working. Remove the top cover, remove front cover and resolder connections on remote receiver. If you intend to do this let me know and I can give you more details.

Samsung HT-A100 Home Cinema system plays cd only with tv on!

You need to put away the remote for your TV and use only the remote for your HT system. Your HT remote should work on your TV by default. Your Samsung HT remote should have a TV button and a DVD/Receiver button (or HT button). When using only the TV, press the TV button and then use it for just the TV and when using the HT system, press the DVD/Receiver button and then you can use the HT system.
If for some reason your TV is not set on the Samsung HT remote by default, your HT users manual should have a list of codes that you can use to program your HT remote. Hope that helps you. Gary

What's NEC PF68S33 TV's remote control code for YAMAHA HTR-6130

I had similar problem when setting up the YAMAHA remote control for my NEC LCD TV. At the end I found I did not follow the YAMAHA manual properly. Did you hold down the DTV/CBL button, and AT THE SAME TIME press the AV POWER for 3+ seconds? You should be able to "REMOTE SETUP OK" displayed in the front panel of the YAMAHA AV receiver. Hope this helps. BTW, only the TV POWER, TV MUTE and the numeric buttons work in my case.
