you may have a faulty camera there,,,or the vcr tape may be faulty and has spred some of the tape on the recording head try running a cleaning tape through the vcr first to clean the heads,,then use a new tape (not the old tape!) to try that out,, if its cleans the head up throw away the old tape so you never put it back in this vcr

Operating instructions for dsr pd177p sony video camera. I am not in postion to operate the camera, please guide how to operate the camera.

It is not very easy to say few lines to tutor ,but learn to use only by experience.Put the battery on for charging.Once fully charged slide the power switch to camera.Open the lens cap ,open the view finder display. Now you can see the picture on your screen.Set the camera to auto the camera to a white screen so as to white balance the camera. Now point at an object and do a trial Zooming using the auto zoom with your finger. The image will come closer and you can draw it to white screen.Having an object in view on the white screen, press the record button.Slowly move the zoom forward to get the right frame of the object.Press reccording button once again to stop.Repeat the process on different scenes.
Now shift the mode switch to play and rewind and play the reccorded portion.Practice.

No images but records sound

To start ensure that you removed the cover from the lens.
Also remove battery and put it back in place to reset the camcorder.

If you get only sound on playback, connect the camera to a computer or TV, or play the tape on a different camera. If you get picture in there, then the camcorder is recording, but the video playback does not work because of a faulty LCD display.
If when you play back the movie on a different camera, or using the compute you still get no picture then the camcorder is faulty.
Faults that can cause black screen can be:
Lens problem. Faulty CCD sensor. Faulty controller board.
All this faults are not easy to diagnose and fix, if there is a fault , then it is better to take the camera to a repair shop.

The picture is so bright the screen turns white.

You have a problem with a stuck shutter lens. Try freeing it by putting the shutter on auto shutter. You can try shaking the camera to free the shutter mechanism. Also try using a solid object to tap around the lens to free the shutter. Do not damage your camera with these fixes. If these fixes do not work for you, you will have to take your camera to a service person and have them free up the mechanism. I hope this information helps you with your problem.

White Spot

If this white spot is always exactly the same, but moves off the picture when you start to digital zoom and not optical zoom, there is probably something on the sensor. You mentioned that when zooming, eventually it moves. Are you in digital zoom mode at that time? (The switchover from optical to digital zoom is automatic, but you can disable it). Is this white spot blurry or sharp? Can you see fringes of the image at the edges? (This would suggest something on the lens).
If there is a piece of dust inside the lens ,you may be able to see it looking down the lens. How big is this spot?
Either way, if the camera is new, can you still return it?

You have a defective CCD imager - the part of the lens that receives the image. Will need to be replaced.
