Question about Kenmore 73503 Stainless Steel Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

Kenmore 73503 not cold enough

My refrigerator does not cool properly. The temp dial is set at the highest possible setting 7 and my food barely seems cold. The freezer works almost too well. The freezer is set at its lowest setting and seems too cold. Both the freezer and refrigerator are controlled by knobs. Please help with any possible solutions.

Your refrig section cools the following way. Air is drawn in to freezer through return air ducts located on bottom of refrig (FF) and entering freezer(FZ) on either side of the coil. That air is drawn through the coil and up through the supply air vent located directly abouve the freeer fan. Located at the top (mounted on rear) of the FF is the damper. This is what opens or closes air flow to FF depending on thermostat. Above the knob in the FF is a belt that runs to the damper located on the rear. You said the Fan is ok, and there is no frost that would block the air flow to the FF(look closely at bottom of freezer panel through slots and you should see the bottom of the coil. Inspect for frost (again you said there was no frost). Also check return air ducts on either side of the bottom of FF if these are iced or blocked no air to FF. Inspecting the supply duct requires removal of the FZ rear panel. If all ducts are clear that only leaves the damper assy. Removal requires dissasembly of FF lights and is kinda tricky. Let me know what you find.

My freezer isn't cold enough. Are the higher numbers on the thermostat dial colder or are the low numbers colder? See full question below.

Hi, If I remember correctly, make sure the freezer control is set to on, otherwise neither will cool.
You need to give it 24hr for temp to settle, then check to see if freezer temperature is 0? to 2? F (-17? to -16? C).
Turn control to next highest number if too warm.
Turn control to next lowest number if too cold.
Allow 5 to 8 hours for adjustments to take effect.
Check to see that fresh food section is 38? to 40? F (3? to 4? C).
Turn control to next highest number if too warm.
Turn control to next lowest number if too cold

Hope this helps

Hello! I have an old model Kenmore 21 CF. The fresh food part of the refrigerator (the freezer seems fine) is not cold enough. Last night at 11:30pm I turned it from setting 5 to 7 (9 being the coldest)....

Check to see if the fan in the freezer is running, without it you get no cooling in refrigerator. If that's ok check for ice buildup on back freezer wall if so you have a defrost problem

My Dometic works but is not cooling properly. I set it at the highest setting and barely keeps food cold.

You either have a blockage or a small leak in the system. Need a refrig. tech. to evaluate then do the repair. No way out sorry.

Not keeping cold enough. temp is set on high . freezer seems cold enough, but as of last night , cooler seems warmer

Clean the condenser fins under the refrigerator, also make sure the cooling fan is moving air over the condenser at a good volume. Make sure the temperature selector for the fresh foods is set properly and that air is being expelled from that opening and the opening is not blocked by something that someone may have placed there accidentally.

Refrigerator does not get cold

In your freezer section, there should be a "control" for the freezer temp. I say "control" because the knob is attached to a flap that only controls airflow the the lower section. If the knob is turned to coldest it will block almost all of the air from getting into your fresh food section.

Kenmore elite refrigerator. both compartments (bottom freezer and top refrigerator)are not keeping with the temperature setting. the food is cool but not cold as it should be. how can I test to see if...

Really most folks have to keep their setting on their fridge on about a 6-7 or-8 setting with the amount of food that is kept in the fridge now.
YOU CAN KEEP AN EYE ON THE RELATIVE temp if you like by placing a fridge thermometer in the appliance. Optimal fresh food should be around 40-43 degrees F on average to keep things on the cooler side without freezing.
Hope this helps

Kenmore 73503 - Freezer very cold refrigerator warm.

Check and find out if your fan operates in the freezer. Cold air is heavier than hot air and will settle to the lowest point. The refrigerator not cooling tells me it is not getting the air for cooling which comes from the freezer.

The lowest setting in the freezer compartment may be set to cold holding back cooling to the refrigerator. Try your settings at mid-point on both refrigerator and freezer settings.
