Re: java problems with canon vb-c10

That's an old (read: discontinued) camera. Try 'downgrading' your java to the last of version5 from the java archives site: and I bet it will suddenly work fine. You can have both versions of java on your machine, but you'll have to restart your browser every time you switch. Yep, it's a pain, but I haven't found a software/firmware upgrade from Canon to 'fix' the camera yet. (if someone does, please post it!)

Says card locked

If it says Card Locked but the switch on the memory card is not locked, try another card. If you are still having the problem, there is going to be a problem with the memory card reader in the camera. At that point, if you're under warranty, Canon should cover it. If you're warranty is up, go with this site This is where a lot of people go for help with the Canons. That's all they service, they do excellent work and they are much cheaper than Canon themselves.

Every memory card I put in the camera says card locked

I would go to this site: They just work with the problems on the Canon Powershot cameras. You can probably find their email address on their site and email them. They are amazing if you need help with one of these models. If your memory card is not locked, I would have to assume there is a problem with the camera. That site would be the one to help, they just deal with the Canon Powershots exclusively and they are excellent for help with them cameras. Best of luck with it.

I have the powershot G10 and the message card locked appears when I try to get a shot

Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Lost functions of camera

Setup Screen 3 has an option for "Clear all camera settings" which will reload the defaults. If that's not what you need, you could try re-installing the firmware, but if the firmware is corrupt, you likely can't launch it. If your camera is just locked up, try removing the battery and reinserting. If that doesn't do it, Canon's Tech support can be suprisingly helpful: 1-800-OK-CANON, or you can download the manual from - here's a shortcut to the 40D download page from the above site: (The actual Camera Instruction Manual is the last item under "Guides and Manuals"). If I'm misunderstanding the problem, feel free to respond.

Canon 450D is not being recognised by my computer (I run xp 32-bit). When I turn on the camera, windows comes up with a "install new hardware" option. I have installed the EOS utility etc. but still the...

Both the Canon XT 350D and the XTi 400D are recognized by any PC with XP windows operative system. It seems you have to check your USB port or USB cable used to connect your cameras to the PC. Sometimes, the PC does not recognize a specific device connected to an USB port. Yopu can get into the System -device manager screen, and uninstall the USB port, and run the utility to recognize changes in the device manager. This will install the USB port driver again, and if it is a software issue the reason of the problem, then it will be fixed.

Also, you can check your cameras and USB cable in a different PC so you can confirm if they both work has should be.
