Can't open case

I have a desktop case in which I can't open the top. The two buttons release fine, the left side comes apart, but the right side seems to be 'stuck'. It's a refurbised system and from my understanding there are no screws holding the case togeather. Any suggestions?

Re: Can't open case

Dell optiplex have very tight casings, dont be afraid to use force.
I have one myself and it is a struggle to get the casing off.
as long as those 2 side buttons are pushed in just give it a good tug and hopefully it should come off.

How do i remove the front cover of my dell computer tower 8250

Not sure if you can pull the front cover off this particular model, but to open the PC:

  1. Make sure the PC is powered off and disconnected from the AC outlet.

  2. If facing the front of the PC, lay it on its right-hand side, so it lies flat.

  3. At the back of the PC at the top left, there is a release button. There should also be a release button on the bottom of the PC near the rear (slightly indented into the bottom). While pressing both of the release buttons, pull the cover upwards and the case will open like a clam.

How to open gateway 300c desktop

There are several casings. You'll just have to pick one that fits your computer. Before you begin anything. Turn off your computer and remove the power cable. New Midtower Case 1 Look for a release handle on the top of the new midtower case. 2 Push the release handle inward. 3 Swing the case down from the top to open it. Microtower Case 1 Lay the computer down so that the left side is face up. 2 Locate two cover release levers on the back of the case toward the middle of the left side panel. 3 Squeeze the release levers together, then lift the panel up, swinging it away from the back of the case. Old Midtower Case 1 Lay the computer on its side, so that the left side panel is face up. 2 Remove any retaining screws along the left side of the back of the case that are holding the panel in place. These screws may be removed with your fingers. 3 Locate two release levers at the top and bottom of the back side of the case, and push them away from each other. 5 Swing the panel up and away from the case to open it while holding the release levers.

Unable to remove cover from dell dimension 8400 desktop pc

This Dell Support, and the Service Manual for the Dimension 8400,

In the Service Manual main menu, left-click on - Opening the Computer Cover

1) Computer off, and unplugged from power. (Always unplug the power cable from the surge protector. Then if the power cable needs to be removed from the computer, do so)

2) Remove all cables to the computer

3) Lay the computer on it's Right side.
(As you face the computer, your right side is the computers Right)

4) There is a Release button on the Top of the computer case, and a Release Button on the Bottom of the computer case.
These are located at the Rear of the computer.

The preferred method of opening the computer case, is to press one release button in at a time, and slightly lift up on the side of the computer case, where that release button is located near.

Then go to the other side of the computer case, press this release button in, and lift up on the computer case.

The computer case opens like a clamshell. The computer case is hinged at the front.

Computer laying on it's right side. Press the Top release button in, and lift up on the computer cover located near the Top.

Now press the release button on the Bottom. Lift the computer case up.

The computer case opens from the back, towards the front, like opening a car hood.

How do I open the case of a Compaq evo d51S to upgrade memory?

Press the two side buttons, slide the case forwards, then lift it up and off. Sounds too easy, doesn't it?

The case can sometimes become stuck, requiring a bit more force. With the PC on a stable flat surface, press the side buttons and **** the top forwards vigorously. Be sure to press the rearward part of the side buttons so that the forward part starts to protrude a bit. This releases the catch behind the forward part of the button.

The case needs to slide forward about an inch to be able to lift off.

If your case is still not moving, you have probably encountered the dreaded stuck case syndrome. Looking at the case from the front, the left-hand side is stuck but the right-hand side releases. You are not alone, this has happened to more than one of us. I'm still not 100% clear on where the case jams, but there is a way to free it up.

NOTE: No tools are required to free the case cover, but you will most likely need pliers to straighten the clips afterwards!

Press both side buttons and slide the top cover forward as far as you can. Looking at the case from the front, twist the cover a little to allow the right-hand side to clear the clips. Once clear, lift up the right-hand side. It will catch on the chassis and, if fitted, the floppy-drive eject button. Gently ease the front of the cover forward so that the floppy-drive eject button clears the drive.

Next, slowly and firmly lift the right-hand side up and out past the chassis. This requires a bit of force (strength), but should not require violence (hitting).

If the case still won't release properly on the left-hand (CD/DVD) side, continue pivoting the case up from the right-hand side. At some point (cover probably around 60-75 degrees to its usual horizontal position), you will feel the metal clips resist. Release a little to see if the case is now free to move. If it is not, lift further, bending the clips as you go. Suddenly the case will be free to move forward! (You should not need to get to 90 degrees).

Once the cover slides forward, you will need to raise and lower it to work the clips out. The rear clips should release before the front ones and you can slowly pivot the cover out.

You will need to use pliers to straighten the clips before replacing the cover.

When replacing the cover, check to make sure that the cover slides easily back and forth before pushing it all the way back. The cover metal will only bend so many times before it breaks so you don't want to do this process more than once.

Trouble removing case on Dell Dimension 4600c

Try this...

I work on these systems on a weekly basis and they can be very difficult to open. I would make sure that you have already removed the feet from the bottom and turn it so that the heavy side (technically right side up) will be facing the floor. Place the palm of each of your hands on each of the buttons and squeeze the system as hard as you can while holding the system maybe an inch or two off of the floor. The plastic buttons basically cover a metal release tab that is actually part of the frame. All of the clamshell type cases are tough to open because of this. Good luck.
