Question about Symphonic WF104

My dvd won't play any movies

The player will no longer play discs. It makes a strange ticking noise. Sounds like a ferret or a squirrel. It's weird, but it won't play any films.

Re: My dvd won't play any movies

The ticking sound is most likely the laser hitting the disk trying to focus, my guess is the motor isnt spinning the disc or the laser is bad or weak.

I'm trying to watch a movie on my coby portable DVD player and every time I try and watch a movie it just says invalid disc and it makes weird sounds.

If there is no TS-Folder showing in a computer then it is not a DVD Disc. The disc could be badly scratched, ie the noise. There are many theories and one I've heard but not try is putting nail polish over the disc the freezing overnight, defrost then wipe outward a from the centre. The DVD player may be out align then should be looked at or possibly cheaper to buy a new player. Hope the info was useful, good luck ;)

Attempts to load then reads no disc

The problem is with the lens assembly. sometimes you may have to replace it(lens assembly) or optical pickup

Disc Skips

The non-technical answer would be that the lens needs to be cleaned. This is the first step for this type of problem. There are many things that can get the disk drive lens dirty like smoke, incense, dust, moisture. Open the unit and open the DVD cover. You will see the lens that reads a DVD. Get a cotton swab (the ones for cleaning out ears) and some isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) and moisten the cotton swab with the alcohol (moisten not soak) and gently (I mean, do not push hard or scrub hard) rub it on the lens. Now with a dry cotton swab, do the same. Let it dry for a minute (longer if the swab had more alcohol and it might have dripped down) and close the unit. Now try to play DVDs and let us know if it worked. Thanks.

Stops Playing: screen freezes

My friend suggested I clean the dvd optical reader lens inside the player with a fine brush (like a camera brush with a blower bulb). This seemed to help immensely. I'm not certain if this is just a temporary fix, but it seems to be ok so far.

It sounds like the player needs to be cleaned. Just go to your local electronics store and get DVD player cleaning disk. They are only like $10 and do the trick. Whatever you do, DONT blow into the player as it will only make it worse.

Not playing movies

The clicking sound is the lens assy trying to move on the traverse mechanisim and the release spring is ticking. You might want to crack her open and look for any foreign objects in the laser area. You can also try to move the lens assy by hang gently sometimes they get stuck for no reason. Let us know :-)

DVD Player makes a slight "tick, tick" sound during playback

I would certainly take the unit back cause that noise could be the tracking or focus coils making that noise as they are being overdriver. This could cause the unit to fail prematurly. Its not an adjustment that you can do your self, it takes special equipment and disc
