Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
I have a PS3 connected via hdmi monster cable to my sharp 37 inch lcd hdtv 1080i and i get no sound at all, i bought an optical cable and connected it to my bose 321 system and still no sound. i used to get sound from the ps3 and my hdtv but not since i moved and swiched to direct tv which has been messing up my tv ever since it was installed, i also get no sound with the hdmi cable and the cable box, just picture...i used to at one point get sound. I really dont want to go the component route....but if its just for audio i guess . My sharp TV has an optical output,my cable box also has an optical out. any help would be great....the tv is less than 2 years old could i have lost the speakers somehow.
Thanks for any help guys!!
Go under system setting-->select sound settings-->select audio output settings -->hit x on hdmi-->hit x on automatic-->hit x to enter. This solved the issue for us :)

It needs to be on HDMI with Digital Output, installing new games can change the settings on you. Heres how to change it:
1. Reset the PS3 by turning off then holding power button until it beeps
2. Choose the HDMI settings on the screen when the PS3 detects its presence and select the optimal settings
3. In the PS3 Menu go into the Settings/Sound Settings/Audio Output menu and select Digital Output (and choose your appropriate theatre mode), confirm with X
Your menu screen should now have sound when you move around. This should fix the problem if everthing else here doesn't, it did for me.

This has to do with a firmware update. Remember that if you are running sound output via Digital Optical, some games will NOT support the DTS feature. Go into sound setup and make sure the DTS option (should be second from the top) is disabled. Some games support it (i.e. EA's Dead Space) however many games (Burnout: Paradise and both Resistance 1 and 2) do not. If you are having trouble hearing sound in blu-ray movies (for example, you have menu sound but not sound during the film itself) make sure you have Linear PCM changed to Bitstream accessible by pressing the green triangle button during the film, and going to sound options. This should resolve all problems. Hopefully a future firmware update will allow the system to be intelligent enough to pick what output mode is appropriate.

I connected the PS3 to tv with HDMI to DVI lead. This got me the picture. Then I used the AV composite cable supplied with the PS3 for the sound. Plug the single end into PS3, then just the white and red into the TV Audio sockets. Just leave the yellow unplugged. Go into settings on PS3 and change vision to the HDMI cable and sound to the AV composite cable. Sorted. If pic doesn't come up first time for any reason, turn off PS3 and turn it on again holding the on button on until it beeps.

If you did not change your sound setting to digital output then that would be the reason you still have no sound. Usually when using the HDMI cable it its a must to use the Digital optical cable for sound. Hope this helps. Some TV's do not have the Digital Optical cable input and an external sound system is required most current home theater systems will have this cable input.

Still no sound Bro... I got rid of my big box old school tv, and got a HDTV Thosiba... And my problem is that when i changed from Scart to HDMI i get no sound at all, not from the menuscreen, and not from youtube.... I've tried like 3 or 4 different "sollutions" and non of them is working... Has anyone had the same problems?
