on all the time- battery is in the film pack, and when you press the shutter it gets all the power from the film pack battery. If the camera doesn't work, it's possible that the battery is dead, even if you have film left. You'll need to try and get the film pack replaced, if the expiration date has not passed. If it has passed your just out of luck. Since Polaroid made their last run of film forever this last summer, this camera is probably going to be obsolete soon, so get your film while you can.

the last few photos in a pack have difficulty ejecting. I suspect the spring mechanism is weak and may need replacement. I had it fixed 2 years ago but do not recall where.
