Every time I use the self cleaning feature, the oven blows. It is only 6 years old and this has happened three times already. The last time, the thermostat was replaced. How do you replace the thermostat?
You will need to pull the oven out of the wall and remove the back panel. The thermostat is located behind that panel and held in by two screws. Whirlpool makes a wire harness kit that can be installed which allows the fan to run longer preventing this problem from happening.

Hello - we have had this same issue a number of times as well. Do you lose all power on the unit too? We do - have discovered that using the self-cleaning isn't really a good idea with these ovens. The ovens aren't really made to heat to such high heats that are used in the cleaning cycle and during that last hour of cleaning it hits it highest peak - and it blows it's fuses. We recently blew 2 fuses at the same time, locking both doors (Double oven) and knocking out the power for the entire unit. Our repair man said that the average on wall ovens is anywhere between 6 - 12 cleanings before you will blow the same fuses and the whole cycle starts all over again. Our expense was $350. So, self-cleaning now means elbow grease around this house. How this information was a bit helpful for you.
Hi,
Unfortunately you have found out the hard way about the self cleaning feature... they cause many problems...
Here is a tip that I wrote about that and it includes some things you can try to get you oven to unlock...
Self cleaning features on all ovens tend to blow fuses. It is best to use a oven cleaner rather than the self clean feature. Your oven has a fuse on the rear of the oven that must be replaced. You must unplug the range and remove the rear panel to access the fuse. Use a volt/ohm meter to check the fuse. No reading on continuity is a bad fuse.
Your thermal fuse or TOD mounted to the back of the oven went out during the self clean,it shuts off the power to the elements.
The oven must be removed from the wall to change this.
Self cleaning features are not recommended by most appliance technicians. The ovens are not constructed satisfactorily to expel the 1000 degree heat, Therefore the thermal fuses blow as well as other parts failures.
Remove the oven. Remove the rear panel. Replace the thermal fuse in the back of the oven. Use Easy Off next time.
F2 error code means that the oven temperature is too hot. You will have to replace relay board if faulty. Check and replace oven temperature sensor (RTD). If failure repeats, replace ERC (electronic range control or clock). For replacement part you may contact Sears at 1-800-252-1698; M-F 6:30 AM-10:30 PM - Sat 7:00 AM-9:30 PM - Sun 7:30 AM-9:30 PM - All times Central.
Did this with me twice now on self clean. It's the thermostat on the back of the oven. Set to trip when oven gets too hot which happens with self clean. Part is about $45 - $50 and pretty simple to install. Hardest part is pulling the oven out of the wall.
Can you locate the model number on the oven? Also any particular name of the stove? The manufactured year. These should all be available on a stainless steel or aluminum attached plate , probably on the back of the stove or inside the door.
I wouldn't try using the self cleaning feature until we get some advice. it could lock up on you and not UNLOCK. Normally self cleaning takes place at 600 or more degrees .
I'm sure others still have the same stove., I will see what I can find for you.
