Exactly the same problem. No error messages, printer behaves as if it is printing, feeds paper, makes all the usual noises, but paper is blank....have changed head, cartridges and USB cable.

    Anyone help??

the same thing just happened to me. the printer was working fine just as i left town to be gone for 2 1/2 months. i turned evrything off, disconnected the printer and set sail. when i returned, i reconnected everything and went to print a doc and no ink. the printer mad all the regular printer moves and sounds, but, no ink. i replaced the cartridge and cartridge housing, cleaned contacts with alcohol and no friggin ink. a friend said something that you should never turn off the printer because the heat keeps the ink warm and once the ink dries (on whatever surface), you're hosed. oh well.

Atter the printer did a 3-beep and then error startup with no further response (with the cartridge carrier stopped in the centre):

I cleared the problem using the power+resume butttons while plugging in the power cord... held down, followed by cartridge + resume held down, hot power - then did the cartridge button hitting 9 times..... at last the printer tried to print once more.... [well I stared at 16, seemd to get no change, 17 produced a back and forth dance, so I began at 1, then 2 then.. right up to 9 where it at last was willing to boot up without the above error condition]

But now just prints white sheets..

So - how does one remove the green carrier, and the print head, and the ink pad -- to try cleaning them?

Have had this same problem for 8 months now. Have yet to see a solution. I have installed New cartridges, new head (green component), cleaning, etc, but still prints out BLANK pages. Anyone have an explanation for this?

This seems to be a somewhat common problem (why?) ...and Canon customer service is of no help. I would love to get my bjc-85 up and running again.

after not using the printer for several months, no ink comes out as well. I've soaked the cartridge/print head in solvent for 15 hours, and ink seems to flow just fine, but it doesn't. print.

Sorry if this sounds daft (but I am), when this happened to me and I'd pulled all my hair out I read the instructions on the cartridge and found there was a clear piece of film covering the ink holes on the bottom. It was almost invisible until it was pointed out to me. I pulled it off and 'hey presto'.

My 1st brand new cartridge and ink tanks did not work. I took them out and put in my other new ink cartridge and ink tanks, and now it works fine.

Have you tried changing the green carrier? That solved my problems with no ink.

My BJC-85 printer is only printing blank pages when i send stuff to the printer. I have tried cleaning and ink test etc.

I am having same trouble with my BJC 85, and my Canon i70 and i80 printers. It always starts that the ink gets weak on the paper, then stops printing. I have tried deep cleanings.....several dozens.....and doesn't do anything. So then, I have cleaned the print head by soaking in alcohol or merely dabbing with Qtip of alcohol, and old ink usually is dissolved. But then I have NEVER been able to get a cleaned print head to accept ink thru. I have even added ink to the print head itself, and just wont print anything.
Some other sites speak about soaking it in warm water to dissolve old ink, I'm going to try that as last resort, but after that, I really don't know what to do. I have NEVER had this problem with my 85's before. They've been extremely faithful workhorses, but since last year, getting cheap ink online made in China has clogged up the printers.
I do not have any error messages, so don't have to deal with that. But just perplexed why the print heads won't work, especially after cleaning with alcohol. They just seem to shut off.

My Canon BJC 85 printer needs a new black print head but they do not seem to be available. Any thoughts on a fix?

You pretty much have to buy another prnter. I've had same troubles. Go on ebay to search for print heads for the BJC-85. But for the cost--if you can find one, since this is a much older printer--it's more cost effective to just get another printer. The problem is, that when the print head goes out again, you end up getting another and another printer, so that you've got several printers that work fine, but only one print head.
I have trouble that when the ink stops printing, I've cleaned the heads with alcohol, and then it just seems to shut down. I cannot get anything to print thru a head after cleaning with alcohol, even tho' other sites suggest it. Had same trouble with Canon i70 and i80 printers, too.
If you haven't purchased on ebay, take your time, because sometimes prices for another used printer can be good, sometimes super expensive. You can find a bargain, if you don't need to get one with power cord, because you've already got one. Good luck. Terry

BJC 85 not printing after head replacement

I have similar problem. Print head won't print, then I clean with alcohol, and get rid of old ink inside. But then head seems to just shut down. I have several print heads and printers that have plenty of ink, but head won't work. I refuse to think the print head will break so easily. I used my BJC 85 for YEARS with no problem whatsoever, and suddenly, since last winter, I have 4 printers that have stopped printing.
I usually end up just buying another used printer on ebay until that one stops printing.

BJC-85 Not printing. New BC-10 and BCI-10. Paper loads normally

The problem you are having is with the print head and not the printer. Unfortunately, with these canon print heads, they are not dated, so it is possible to install a print head that was bought new and sealed, but is still dried out because it is old.

Try running the print head through one deep cleaning cycle, this sometimes will start to get an old print head flowing.

Deep cleaning cycle can be found by going to PRINTERS , right clicking on the BJC icon, selecting PROPERTIES from the drop down menu, and then selecting the MAINTAINENCE tab.

Check to make sure that the ink tank in the print head isn't dry. Even a new print head can have a dry tank if it's old.

i think u already solved your problem...your printer's problem is its printer head...u cannot solve this problem by fixing it yourself.all u can do is to buy new printer head at printer's shop. it is true because i got the same problem with my BJC 200.i do the same solution as u r and lastly, i go to the technician and he said i need to replace my printer head at some price.....just think bout money n i discover that buy a new one is better(as for my problem)

not to discourage u, but try to plan either to buy new printer head or buy a new printer....

Canon BJC 80 prints blank pages!!

Power off the printer.
Unplug it, then plug it back in.
Wait until it stops its initialization sequence.
Press and hold the power button.
Allow the printer to beep 7 times, then release the power button.
This will reset the EEProm to factory default, and should clear your problem.

CANON BJC-85 Won't print black...

Turn on printer, press cartridge button, remove cartridge. On left side of remaining cradle, unsnap the cradle, lift up and remove. Take the cradle to your sink, wet a paper towel, and GENTLY wipe the long print head with the wet paper towel. Then run a small stream of clear cool water through the cradle, from the round pad that your cartridge rests on, until the pad looks ink-free. Dry everything with tissues and a hair dryer set on low, replace cradle in printer, replace cartridge, turn on printer, press Resume until it beeps three times, which runs the deep cleaning program, and after the procedure is finished, your printer will print as new.

Printer won't print

I have had a similar problem to this: I have had a BJC 80 for nearly 5 years and carried it around with my laptop using Win 98 and a par - par cable. It worked beautifully and successfully - so much so that when i saw a number of ink tanks going at very cheap volume prices in PC World i picked up a lot of them. Changing to an XP meant that i had to keep on using the par to par cable via a docking station but prevented my use of it with my new laptop - so when i brought it out of retirement it gave the blank printing problems yoiu described. By checking some error messages that it expected a black cartridge (which is what was installed) i found that inthe setup the software indicated it defaulted to colour cartridges. By changing this on the computer, it still printed blank pages but by changing the cartridge to colour it sprang into life when the set up asked for colour. I tried 2 other print heads which i had (3-4 years old) but still blank paper when printing to a black cartridge. I am now awaiting a new black print head carrier to see if it makes a difference. When trying with my laptop using XP and a par - usb cable it does not work at all. I have removed the sware driver for the Canon 80 and manually installed the one for the Canon 85 but no luck in printing to par - usb at this time
