Hi, my m35x power light is on but the fan nor the hd is running. It was running fine five minutes before this happened then for some reason decided to stop. I took it in a few months ago to the get the motherboard replaced and the discharge repaired. Any idea what is goin on?
Sounds like your motherboard just died. This is a known issue with Toshiba. They extended the warranty until Nov 7th of 2007, but now it is out of warranty. :-\ You could try phoning Toshiba (good luck getting someone who speaks English) and see if they have any other solutions. Repair is in the neighbourhood of $500 or less, so it seems.

Hi having hard time with your Toshiba laptop conserning your HD.
let me help you.... First wile you turn on your laptop press and old F8 Key then on the screen choose safe mode that will start your laptop on safe mode., to perform a disk cleanup... Also check your bios battery see if it dead.. again you re start your laptop this time you press and hold F1 or F2 key that bring you on the bios of your laptop., now look carefully in your bios .. press on default setup that will reset your bios for now.. then restart your laptop
then at the begining it will ask you wich mode you want ...then chose last good start.. If that solution dont work ..Then you may have to re install your windows again in your laptop, due to missing file in your startup windows., To install a new window,, again.. insert a valid windows with a serial key into your laptop.. wile your start your laptop press and hold F12 then wait for instruction...
yes its motherboard. GPU has failed. Most likely you'll need to get your motherboard Reballed or Reflowed. I have found some reasonable business partners that do this service through ebay. usually runs 80-140 to get fixed. good luck!
Update: I looked at the plug connecting the HD to the PC and pulled it about 1/2 way back off and reinserted into machine. I then pulled the HD back out and noticed that it was not all the way pushed back on and it wasnt parallel to the HD. Basically I am thinking that the HD is not sitting properly in the bay for some reason or another, but I have been running 10+ hours with no problems as of yet. I did reformat the HD so I am going down that road of reloading and letting run awhile, reboot, repeat. Not sure if solution, but looking real good at this point.
The only thing you can do is to check to see if the installed memory is making contact. To do that, open up the access panel, unclip the memory and then reinstall it. If that doesn't fix it, you're into a trip to the shop.
