Re: loud fan and wont turn on

Power supply is probably shot and you are feeding a voltage way over what is needed. I have a dell that refused to operate one day. I went to www dot affordablesurplus dot com and found a 350 watt power supply with all the RIGHT plugs. Never had a problem since.

My computer will not turn on

many, not all, psu's will internally tripo after this happens. how to reset:
1 if it has an on/off button turn off for 1 min and turn on.
2 if it has no button but has a 110/220 switch, unplug it then switch to 220 then back to 110 (also this may be 115/230 or even 120/240)
3 if it has neither of these, unplug it for 10 mins, then replug it and start up.
also when you opened the case did you smell anything funny? if so i would say that the mobo and/or cpu are done for. i doubt this tho because you had them on a surge, but it is possible.
1 more thing when you opened the case did you by chance knock a wire loose from the mobo?(motherboard)
after re reading your post i question whether the surge strip is good, because you said it was tripped and yet you had the posu light on. or did you mean a light inside the case of the computer itself?
if none of these suggestions help you please re post with answers to the questions i asked thanx and hope i have helped.

Last night I heard a loud pop sound come from my computer and then it shut down. I tried to start up the computer but it didn't turn on. None of the fans turned on either so I concluded something is wrong...

Yes, and the power supply needs replacing.
4 screws hold the power supply to the cabinet or case these are usually located outside visible at the fan vents at the four corners.

I have a Okia 420ATX power supply. I had it

Based on the additional information that the power supply fan turns on for a few seconds and then goes off indicates to me you have a motherboard or processor problem. I would have a service center check the computer for you.

Power Supply, Computer wont Turn on

Possible Power supply troubles.

1. Noisy Power supply Fan,,,,,
2. Burnt smell

You can buy cheap Power supplies that will last about a year & half for about $20. Or you can spend up to $100 + dollars.

Make sure you the power supply you pick has at least 300-350 watts or more.

My gateway desktop PRB 510S, if I turn it off and unplug it or electricity goes off, the computer wont start back again. Wont do anything. No lights no fan, nothing. Then 5 to 10 minutes after I turn it on...

Try connecting a different power supply to it. If the same situation repeats, then it's an internal (motherboard) problem. If the problems go away, then the power supply needs to be replaced.

6 years... I'm surprised the PSU even lasted that long! The power supply is the cheapest part of the PC and usually one of the first parts to fail. Don't worry, a replacement power supply is not too expensive. Good luck!

Ultra 350 Power supply very loud fan

It's not normal for the fan to be loud, what makes them loud is either a build up of dust on the fan blades or the bearings are going on the fan itself.
If the PSU is working fine then you can replace the fan itself from an identical PSU. It does mean taking the PSU out of the computer and fitting the fan yourself.
Alternatively you can purchase another PSU.

Computer won't stay powered on

What type of computer is it? Manufacture/partnumber...Your associates are incorrect, it is actually better to leave it on because turning it on and off is harder on a computer. This also depends upon your environment (dust, dirt, moisture, etc.) Companies all around the world leave computer systems up for years, only to shut them down when a part needs repalaced or windows requires a reboot.

Computer wont turn on

big blue flash! I would say one or more of the filter capacitors just blew up! time for a new power supply. the AC goes into the unit and a surge suppressor is across the line - looks like an orange colored disk - from there it goes to a step down transformer to a multiple output secondary. on the secondary there are numerous "bridge rectifier" circuits that take the AC and change it to usable
dc. That DC is filtered with large capacitance capacitors. I have a site if I can still find it that has large wattage power supplies. I'll find it and get back to you.
