Question about SanDisk Sansa e260 MP3 Player

E250R when I tried to run the download ( I get an error "application failed to read version details" on my mp3?? any ideas?

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website.
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out:

E270r Refresh Database error w/ version details error

Try putting the player into "msc" usb mode. "mtp" usually does that, but i've never hear of it being on the comp.

Recovery mode formatting failed

"Application failed..."

Means that this version is not for your player.

You have the Rhapsody version, which is not compatible with this software.

If you call SanDisk Support, they can email you what you need.

Sansa e200 resetting problem

The error message means that you have a different version.

Your device is annotated with an R or the word Rhapsody on the back. I have contacted FIXYA to add these models, but my words were unheard.

You will need to contact SanDisk for the Rhapsody version of the files to fix your problem.

I get - 'Load main image failed. Switch to Recovery mode'

Run the recovery tool from the SanDisk website. Make sure you select "format" when prompted. You need to put the device into "recovery mode" before you run the tool. - Turn the device off (hold power for 20 seconds) - Slide the hold switch into "hold" position. - Press and hold the "record" button while connecting it to your computer. Keep holding the "record" button until you see the "new hardware found" on your computer. Then run the recovery tool. Select format when prompted. Best of Luck.

Error with formatting

Its not a firmware update you are running, it is a recovery tool. The "application failed to read version details" error is because it is not meant for your device. You have a Rhapsody version and the firmware is different. You will need to call SanDisk for them to email support documents. SanDisk Technical Support 1-866-726-3475 If you are truly trying to format the device, change the mode on the device Settings>Mode or USB Mode, then try formatting again. Best of Luck.

Downloded recovery from sandisk website now get error msg

That software only works with the non-Rhapsody versions, hence the error message. You can call technical support and they can walk you thru the fix. Its too much to type. SanDisk Technical Support 1-866-726-3475 Best of Luck.
