Question about InFocus LP 735 Multimedia Projector

Infocus LP790HB Overhead Projector

After powering up, the unit will run for about 45 seconds and cycle off for about 45 sec, then back on and continues this pattern. When it shuts down, the power led goes from steady green to flashing green and back to steady 45 sec later. The lamp PCB power supply (front right corner) does not loose its input voltage (380 Vdc). There is a spark gap on the board that when voltage across it reaches about 284 Vdc, the system cycles on & off at 45 sec intervals. I thought the spark gap was firing but not sure. I researched the part (EPCOS 800-043) but not able to find the voltage rating. Also, I have disabled the "DPMS".

Also, I have reset the unit and the lamp......I think.

The fans and unit are clean, however, if the lamp needed replacing (don't know how many hours,)would that mean software is keeping up with the hours and is programmed to shut down after so many hours have elsaped? Or does the lamp filament pull more or less current as it ages? I don't understand how the lamp could cause this problem. Not saying it wouldn't, just saying I don't understand yet. I work in electronics and can troubleshoot to component level. This thing was given to my son and he wants to use it. To replace the lamp would be very, very expensive unless I knew for sure. Is there a way to determine its definitely the lamp? Thank You for replying.

If its the lamp, how does the circuit shut down? Does the lamp pull more or less current as it ages? Is there a reference window for monitoring voltage or current? Is there some way to make the circuit think there is a good lamp installed? I'am not sure how the lamp functions sincee there does not appear to be a filament to measure. Thank You.

I've run into the same problem on LCD projectors, and found that simply replacing the lamp does nothing. I believe that it is a software feature, which has to be reset by someone privy to the instructions to do so given only to certified repair facilities by the manufacturer. I also feel that this is something which should be investigated by the US Attorney General, since it violates US law.

I have an Infocus 640 that I'm thinking of repairing. It won't power on correctly. If I hook up a regular power cord to the back and bend it slightly and press the power button, the unit will power on...

firstly why not just resolder the main connector on the pcb of the 640 unit. then check if your problems will be solved.

Otherwise look at the part number of both power supplies and see if they are the same.

I have now had my second Infocus LP70+ with the same issue. Unit powers up and the moment Infocus screen appears the unit powers down. Any assistance would be appretiated. Both start with serial ANEN.

Normally problems are heat related.Try blowing air to clean dust from the filters,Check fans are moving and also refitting back the lamp. This should solve your problem. Please rate the solution.

if the new lamp doesn't have a problem, then it's not the ballast, it's just a bad bulb. especially if you didn't get it from infocus. the cheaper lamps don't last long. you get what you pay for.

Problem with INfocus LP425z Colorwheel ?????

That unit has a bearing color wheel, if it was not stored proper, it could be sticking. That would explain the power cycling. giving it a bump start if you will. Yes you can open and inspect to see if color wheel "free wheels"
