To my knowledge, the 6P isn't a USB printer, it's parallel port only. Are you using a USB / parallel port adapter? If so, I believe that's the root of your problems - the adapter.

Try hooking it directly to the parallel port (shut the PC and printer down before doing so).

Upon restart, Windows will detect it, and may or may not "know" the model, so you may have to choose it from the dropdown boxes.

If it works when directly connected, you will need to either locate drivers for the adapter (if any), or manually configure it under the printer port properties.

If you need more help, let me know. These are great little printers - once you get them to work!

When it shows the message new hardware found click on "start" then click on "printers and faxes"Select the option on right side 'add printer" or select from file menu "Add printer" click next if insert installing CD Disk which came with Printer written Divers then click next now computer will start looking for Printer's Driver

other Subjection is
when it shows new hardware found message click on that message Insert Divers CD which came with that Printers Select the option to install driver from CD

Another subjection is Install the CD which came with Printer
Actual you don't have to any thing Insert CD It will auto play and
start installing just read the caption and select the alternatives

Best Of luck

Windows 7 driver for Laserjet 6P

you will need an actual parallel port to connect that printer. If the new system doesn't have a parallel port, then I'd either:
  1. Install a parallel Port expansion card
  2. Get a USB Printer

I get a pop-up after I've sent a doc to print on the office-shared LaserJet 6p. Just started after install of new PC (Windows XP Pro).

Go to control panel, printers & faxes.
When you see your list of printers, from the main menu choose File - Server Properties.
A window will pop up. Go to Advanced tab, and uncheck the "Show informational notifications for network printers" and the one above as well should be unchecked.
No more popups :)
Please come back with a testimonial if helped :)

HP Laser 4L driver for USB port

Not all USB adapters are the same, you need the one that is made for your printer, I would try a different adapter before going too deep, because when you plug it in your computer should see it even without drivers.
