PROBLEM: printing produces a 2-inch band of alternating dark and light streaks lenght-wise in the centre of each page.

    CORRECTIVE MEASURES TAKEN:

    1. Putting machine through processes of ALIGNING CARTRIDGE, CLEANING CARTRIDGE,
    2. Manually cleaned all areas listed for cleaning in the user guide.

Remove the new cartridge

TAKE A MICROFIBER CLOTH MOISTENED WITH RUBBING ALCOHOL AND WIPE THE PRINT HEAD ( THE PART OF THE CARTRIDGE THAT CONTACTS PAPER)

REINSTALL THE CARTRIDGE THEN TEST

ALSO YOU MAY WANT TO WIPE OFF THE CONTACTS ON THE BACK OF THE INK CARTRIDE WITH THE MICROFIBER CLOTH MAKING SURE THERE ARE NO FINGERPRINTS ON THE CONTACTS

There are many different companies that sell compatible toner, and the quality varies greatly. You should try getting your money back from the company you bought that toner from, and find a new supplier if you can't get it from Gestetner. Premier is a company that sells compatible toner for many different machines, and they usually get pretty good reviews.

Installing a new print cartridge Follow the steps below to install a print cartridge.
  1. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging and, being careful to touch only the black plastic, gently remove the plastic tape using the pull tab. CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections. Figure 4: HP 20 print cartridgec00259017.gif
  2. With the cartridge compartment cover open, insert the print cartridge into the print cartridge cradle with the contacts facing into the unit. When the cartridge is seated in the print cartridge cradle, push the top of the cartridge towards the back of the unit until the print cartridge clicks into place. Repeat this step.
  3. Close the cartridge compartment cover and control panel.
  4. Press the Start/Enter button.
  5. On the keypad, press 1 if the replacement print cartridge is new or 2 if the replacement print cartridge is old. NOTE: When you put in a new cartridge, you must choose 1: New .When you put in a used cartridge, choose 2: Used . This helps you to check the correct amount of ink you have left.

Poor photo printing quality with new color cartridge

Shaking these cartridges does nothing except give you a little exercise. If this is a brand new HP cartridge you are having problems with I would return it to the store you purchased it from. HP brand cartridges should not give you these problems right out of the box. The print defects you are seeing are due to a dried up or clogged print head. If you like you can try hydrating the print head on a water soaked paper towel until the ink starts flowing, but there's a risk you will cross contaminate the colors.

Hi,
Try cleaning the print heads with rubbing alcohol to remove any dry ink, also clean the rollers too.
If the unit has a reset button or option i suggest you try that.

Deteriorating Print Quality

This is Maltesecross. Turns out that the faintness of my printed pages was in fact due to a low ink cartridge, even though some pages printed out fine and others half-good. Eventually, all pages turned faint, and upon re-installing the driver, I got a low-ink warning (the first one ever). Putting in a new ink cartridge solved the problem for me.
