Question about Creative Labs Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra MP3 Player

Creative zen xtra 60GB mp3 player question...

I'm having a problem getting my mp3 player to work. I'm in the recovery mode and I've cleaned, formatted and cleared the OS off my mp3. The problem now is that I can't get the creative software to recognize my player. My computer recognizes it, but evertime I try to download the playsforsure software, it keeps coming back saying that my mp3 player isn't being read even tho' I have an icon for it in my computer folder and I can get into it, even tho' there isn't anything there. Can you assist me.

    The computer is accepting that I do have the Xtra drive, it's the creative software that is disregarding this, and this is where my dilemma lies. As for the software, I've seemed to have lost the initial disk, that is why I was downloading the drives off the internet, so that I could go that route. Would you know of any sites that might sell the Creative Zen Xtra 60GB software? I've already contacted Creative Ireland, unfortunately 1. they no longer service this particular brand of mp3 and 2. My warranty ran out last year. If you have any alternative solutions I'm all ears.

    Sound. Yes, I did, I spoke to one of the Tech guys and he told me that I was flat out of luck on this problem. This is just the minor one I'm dealing with at the moment, if you can assist me on this one, then I will tell you of my other problem that I'm having, but for now I want to concentrate I getting my mp3 player back in the game. Thanks for your assistance.

    How do I let my computer scan for connected hardware. I have a folder called portable media devices and in it I have my flash stick and a memory stick with an icon of a mp3 player with headphones coming off it. I'm thinking this is my connected mp3 player, is this correct?

    Unfortunately, I've gone that route and again to no avail. My computer is still saying that I have the zen xtra portable unit on, but the creative software says it isn't. Hope you can still assist.

Have you reinstalled the software for the mp3 player.
Also have you tried letting your comp search for hardware then select your mp3 from the list then let it search for the correct software.

    hi did you contact them by phone have you tried their web site to see if their is any downloads their.

    Your problem is deffinately a software issue.

    Have you tried going into controll panel and letting your comp scan for connected hardware.

    If you do this it should give you a list of devices that are connected scroll down the list untill you can select you mp3 then it will ask you if you have disk slect no then the computer should search the net for the relevant software.

    If this still dont find the correct software then the only other option you have is using a search engine like i have always found this a good search engine if i need to find any software it should be on the net somewhere.

    I will also look and if i find the programme you need i will post back and give you the link i will have a look now for you ok speak again soon.

    Hi the only thing you can try now is to let your computer search for the software itself here is how you do this.

    1 select controll panel

    2 select add hardware devices(make sure mp3 plugged in all d time)

    3 then select next this should then scan your computer for any hardware devices that are connected.

    When this has finished you will need to scroll through the list untill you can select your mp3.

    once selected it will have a box that says have disk leave this unchecked then it will say search for the software select this.

    It will then search for the software that matches that device best.

    Even if it dont find exact software might find similar one once its finished searching it will tell you the outcome hopefully it will find the relevent software.

    If this still dont find the software you need then the only way to get it is you shouldnt really do this but buy another mp3 player same make as your doesnt matter if not same model but get the closest one.

    They usually use the same software over the whole range take it home istall the software off the disk then once you have done this take it back and get refund off the shop.

    This is the only way i can see you getting the correct software if your comp doesnt find it during search.

    Hi sorry i havnt been in touch for while but ws having huge problems with getting on net.
    Now solved that problem can help you now.
    The only thing you can try and do is use search engine like ask and ask for compatible software for then give your make and model number.
    If still no joy then the only sollution you have is find somone with same make of unit doesnt have to be same model and borrow their disk failing that you can try buying new one use the software and take it back and get you money back i didnt tell you to do it though.
    Ill look on net for you and post back if i find anything

Hard disk problem?

hi mark,I have same problem..recovery mode nothing works .. i live in australia and not sure yet who fixes it telss you about firmware download..have not tried yet..this is only something new.will try more things and post again Good luck Helen

Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra Display Failure

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard

The hard drive here is shot. You will need to buy a replacement hard drive.

My Nomad zen xtra 40gb is stock !!!

It sounds like the hard drive may be damaged. Have you tried to put it in recovery mode?

Put a paperclip in the reset hole while holding down the play button until you see the screen go to recovery mode. Then try the format option; this will erase all your files but it will tell you if you need a new hard drive.
