Question about Gateway MX6438 Notebook
Every time I am on internet explorer and close a dialog box that is from a link or I close the internet the thing says error report, send error report, ignore, and a registry cleaner said I have 300 errors, My friend said I'm only running on one core which I have 2, he said I should redo operating system, I have a trojan conhook de. but I erased it by restore point, my sweeper would nt get it even though it knew it, I put the Gateway operating disk in and did what the CD said on it, but it said directions would appear and the disk did nothing
The error report annoyance is easy. Go to control panel and click system. Click advanced and change the reporting options.
About your trojan: first try to clean it. Go to: trendmicro.com and find housecall. Let the system do its work for 3 hours. Also, use Spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html. It is free and it has an immunize feature which should be updated regularly. Install a good antivirus program and make sure it is up to date. Some good ones: CA, Norton-Symantec (just the antivirus), AVG and Clamwin set to quarantine as a backup.
Switch to FireFox as a browser at mozilla.org. It is less likely to pick up a virus/trojan. Oh, and never click on anything that you don't know about or understand.
If you need to use the disk, be aware that it will wipe out anything you've put on the computer. If you want to go ahead, then use explorer (right click start and then explore). Find your CD drive. Click either autorun or an .exe file which should be evident. Be sure you have your Windows code before you begin. It should be on a sticker on the bottom of the machine.
Don't worry about the cores or the registry cleaning.
