Question about Edirol Virtual Sound Canvas (EDIVSCMP12) for Mac, PC

Latency and EDIROL PC-50

I use Musicator for writing music, and have this Edirol pc-50 plugged into my pc by means of an USB-plug. But I am tired of this latency which disturbs me when writing. The latency is about one second.

I am using XP and the pc is rather fresh, strong/rapid and new.

Kind regards,

This might be useful to me. You asked what kind of soundcard I have. How can I know that? I copied something I found about the sound, and I will paste it here. Will this mean anything to you, or am I in the wildernes? (Norwegian here and there):

The main cause of latency is your hardware. What kind of soundcard do you have? If you are using the one that came with your computer then that is your problem, no matter how good or new your PC is, manufacturers like to save costs by using cheap motherboard mounted soundcards, I had exactly the same problem as you when I started using a MIDI keyboard with cubase.

I'd suggest buying a soundcard designed for audio applications, I use the M-Audio Fasttrack which you can pick up very cheaply nowadays. I have my latency down to around 1/20 second and as an added bonus I get a 1/4 input and an XLR input as well for recording.

yeah you got a realtek soundcard, absolutely useless for any serious audio or MIDI work.

you can improve latency by adjusting the buffer size in your doftware but you are never going to get it low enough to make your keyboard useful. I'm afraid you'll need a new soundcard for that.

Go to the soundonsound forum and post your question up there, there are lots of serious producers and gearheads who can recommend a good soundcard.

Since the edirol is USB powered try using it without any other USB devices connected. Maybe some USB disk or flash takes much power from the USB and the edirol works with less power. If in that case works fine, plug in the other USB devices on by one to find where is the problem. Always check the line input of the edirol, cause mic input makes too mauch amplification and the noise level is critical.

Cakewalk Sonar - Edirol UA-1000 crackles on playback!

That's a latency issue it sounds like.
There's a slider under "Audio" .

Move it in increments towards "slow", test it as you go.
Leave it at the highest setting possible that doesn't crackle.

I've heard this so bad that it sounds like a gun going off.
It scares the Hell out of you when it happens !
