Freezer side and Refridgerator side are not cooling food
We've adjusted the dial on both sides to colder, waited overnight, but still both sides are not cold. Had refridgerator since 2001. First time this has happend. Ice maker stopped working last year for second time. Nothing is blocking the vents. Cleaned coils last night. The motor is running it just doesn't appear to be doing anything. I just want to know if I should call a technician to fix it or shop for a new reefer! Thank you for your help, Kat

1 in a refrigerator is the coldest setting
it should be around the 4-5 mark for proper cooling of food in a refrigerator
1 is the warmest setting in a freezer
This is a very common issue, If the freezer compartment is cold and making ice the problem is simply airflow from the freezer into the refrigerated section. Typically when one senses the refrigerator is warm they max out the settings on both dials the thermostat with its 1-10 settings as well as off for the compressor. This controls the compressor and temperature. The additional setting or dial is for colder freezer or refrigerator as well , However it simply opens or closes a flapper door between the freezer and refrigerator boxes. When that dial or setting is maxed , it closes and makes the freezer colder, yet leaves the refrigerated section starved for sufficient airflow to maintain a cold box in the refrigerated section. Just set the dial that does not turn the compressor off to the middle setting. One can leave the thermostat that does control the compressor in the max setting , just not the colder freezer setting, If you notice colder isnt colder refrigerator, Its actually colder freezer, A common issue found on 25% of all refrigerator calls a simple setting adjustment. Its easy to think that maxing out the settings makes for a colder refrigerator, it doesnt, it makes a colder freezer and warm rerigeration section. If a freezer is making ice, theres nothing wrong with the unit other than airflow setting.
The temperature controls are located at the top front of the refrigerator or freezer compartments. The recommended setting should be correct for normal household refrigerator use. The controls are correctly set when milk or juice is as cold as you like and when ice cream is firm. Wait 24 hours for your refrigerator to completely cool before adding food. If you add food before the refrigerator has completely cooled, your food may spoil. NOTE: Adjusting the refrigerator and freezer temperature controls to a colder-than-recommended setting will not cool the compartments any faster. If the temperature is too warm or too cold in the refrigerator or freezer, first check the air vents to be sure they are not blocked before adjusting the controls. To turn Off/On: Style 1 Press the freezer down arrow touch pad until a dash (-) appears in both the refrigerator and freezer displays. Neither compartment will cool. Style 2 Turn the freezer control to the word Off. Neither compartment will cool when the freezer is set to Off.
Energy Saver option (on some models) The Energy Saver option turns off the heater which helps to reduce moisture on the door hinge seal. The refrigerator uses more energy when Energy Saver is off. Press the control to On to save energy when the environment is less humid. Press the control to Off when the environment is warm and more humid, or if you notice moisture on the door hinge seal.
Adjusting controls If you need to adjust the temperature in either the refrigerator or freezer compartment. NOTES: For Style 1 control, press the up and down arrow touch pads; for Style 2 controls, turn the dial to adjust the temperature. Except when starting the refrigerator, do not adjust either control more than one setting at a time. Wait 24 hours between adjustments for the temperature to stabilize.
you can adjust the control for the freezer side to a colder setting think of the freezer control as a door warmer setting door open farther colder setting door farther closed the fridge control is electric that runs the compresser can turn fridge down to creat more cooling freezer or set freezer to colder setting it is a balancing
act have actually closed freezer control to coldest setting and had items freeze in the fridge side where air from freezer first enters fridge a lower temp in freezer should help ice production
Find the return air It can't come in if it can't get out. also if you were checking it with the freezer door open you will not feel the air. Just in case i have done that myself. if all air ducts are open and it's getting o I should be 20 in fresh food with the control on 9.
Look on the back panel inside the freezer for ice beginning to show. Most times when this happens the fresh food section is the first to notice. Your refrigerator has a control board on the back. If not defrosting the air flow to the fresh food section is greatly reduced. Let me know, Sea Breeze
The problem may be low gas or it may be the thermostat is set too low. First, look at the possibility that you may have the food partly blocking an air channel which is where the very cold air is coming from.. Fridge side should read about 40 F after the door is closed for about an hour. If colder, adjust.
The fresh food side is cooled by the freezer side through a duct between the two. It will have a small door that opens or closes depending on how cool you want the fresh food side. The door opens more as you adjust the temp for the fresh food side colder. If the duct is blocked in any way, then it would be like setting the temp setting for the fresh food side warmer and warmer. The freezer would be cold and the fresh food side would be warm. Set the temp to midway. Check for any obstructions to this duct. The evaporator fan is what moves the air to the fresh food side.. If the evaporator fan is not working, this could vary well is the problem. You may have to check the evaporator coil to see if it is frosted up enough to restrict air flow over the evaporator and to the fresh food side. If this helps you find your problem, please rate me. If there is anything else I can help you with, please ask. I am here to help you.
Refridgerator is 5 years old. Simply went out of cooling and freezing. Still makes operating sounds and lights work but losing our freezer full of food is disturbing on a refer only 5 years old. What could be wrong?
make sure the two vents inside freezer and refridgerator nside are not blocked....normal range is approx -15 to + 15 in freezer,...and 37-42 in fridge...take temp readings inside of both....a full freezer and fridge retian colder temp more...
