Check the tensioner pulley that keeps the belt tight. It is next to the motor and the bearing may be shot.

My mother in law has a kenmore dryer that is 15 - 20 years old. It will start but the dru will not turn she says it does not have a broken belt

Verification of the belt in place would first need to be done, then check to see if the motor is running.

The belt could have jumped off

if the belt was replaced recently, It might not have been the right belt.

Kenmore gas dryer won't turn

It sounds like the belt is stretched or slipping. The belt needs to be replaced. It has been a few years, but dryer cabinets haven't changed that much.First, unplug the dryer from the electical outlet. If the lint filter slides out the top, then remove the two screws that you see in that top door. Pop the two front clips and open the top like a clamshell. You should be able to see where the belt goes around the drum. The front is held on by a couple of bolts at the top of each side. If you remove them the front will swing out, but be careful with the door switch wires. Before removing the old belt, pay attention how it goes around the motor tension pulleys. Slide the old belt off and slide the new one on. Reassemble. I hope this helps

Won't spin anymore. Comes on, but barrell won't spin. dead motor?

Do you hear the motor running? It may just be a broken belt. If it is in fact the motor it can be replaced.

Old (approx 30 years) gas dryer. It's been great.

The fron comes off. Two screws located toward the bottom front (where the front panel angles in) hold the front on. Then you need to remove the front bulkhead/duct work.

Putting the belt on the idler pulley is the trick. If you get this far and need more help, let me know.

Replace belt on kenmore 500 series dryer approx 20 years old

that belt part number is 341241. Depending on the type of door the dryer has, is how you approach the access of these dryers. Mostly though you yank out the filter first.Remove the 2 screws in the filter housing on top. Then use a putty knife to pop the top. Remove the screws holding the front panel on. VERY IMPORTANT! Raise the front up an inch before pulling forward or the panel clips will break! Some models have a panel on bottom. If they do then this panel must come off first. Then you remove the door springs and back off the screws holding down the bottom of the door panel. Then pop the top and remove the screws on top to get the panel out of your way.Use the belt routing diagram found HERE.

It is very much easier to replace the belt from the front, than the back, the cabinet disassembles from the front, and the mechanism remians attached to the rear plate and cabinet floor.
  • pull lint filter out
  • remove 2 screws from under lint filter
  • with putty knife or other blunt blade, release clips at front corners of cabinet top
  • tilt up cabinet top
  • remove 1screw 1/3 way down each side of front of cabinet.
  • lift off cabinet front
  • drum, motor, tensioner, are all exposed

  • lift drum out forward
  • check rollers, drum felts, nylon glide bearings for wear
(worn bearing surfaces are the most common cause of belt breakage and you dont want to do it again next month)
  • reinstall tensioner in slots in cabinet floor, reinstall tensioner spring between tensioner and cabinet floor
(Once the cabinet is open the tensioner mounts are easily visible)
  • loop belt around drum at the wear marks of the prior belt
  • reinstall drum on unworn bearing rollers etc
  • loop belt around motor pulley
  • pull tensioner hard against spring to end of travel
  • loop belt around tensioner
  • relax tensioner
  • spin drum by hand to ensure belt isnt going to jump off
reinstall cabinet in reverse order
~15 MINUTES, but I do 3-4 per day

Kenmore 90 seies belt replacement

you have to remove the top and front panel,if you have a top lint filter remove the two lint screen filter screws, pull the top toward you and up,lint screen inside, most pull forward and up,so you might have to remove the two console head screws(one on each side, flip up and remove 4 more screws, now disconnect the door switch, now remove the 2 screws on the front panel top 1 on each side, now pull up and off, remove any other wires that might go to the door, now pull the drum out,now look down at the motor pulley wheel and the idler wheel, the belt goes around the drum, now put the drum back in place, now put the belt under the idler wheel and up onto the motor pulley, replace everything and your done-mike
