The drive will not update itself automatically. You will have to download the firmware update and update it yourself. You may also want to get the latest Manager software that is Windows 7 compatible.

Firmware Version 2.064:

Product: LaCie 2big quadra ((Professional 2-Disk RAID. I have no back-up with the 2 disks, and this soon after purchase (August 2010). Serial number: 5102001839. Disk 2 does not work. At the front, light...

If the failed hard disk drive is replaced with the exact same capacity, RPM and make of hard drive, then the array can be rebuilt. Raid 0 cannot be rebuilt as each drive contains half of the data, If RAID 1 then can be rebuilt as data on each drive is an exact copy. However if combination of RAID 0 and RAID 1 then can be rebuilt. It's best really to handel this hands on, I recommend taking it to a computer technician especially if the information on it is important.

Thanking you

I have a 3TB big disk quadra and the blue light in front started blinking between red and blue. What does that mean? I still saw the drive on the desktop and access to the files, but I shut down the...

If the drive front LED alternates between Red and Blue, whilst the rear LEDs are normal, then it is a tempertaure warning. Ensure that there is plenty of space around the drive and at the rear.

My Book World does not power up

Mine is the same. Powered down over Xmas. Powered it up and the disks spin up but no lights.
Emailed WD. They sent me a bunch of standard test stuff. Nothing helped.
I ended up taking the two 500G drives out and putting them in my computer. The first one I tried (B) would not allow the PC to start!!!
The second one I tried (A) was found correctly in the BIOS. The XP disk manager found it but couldn't identify the file format.
I put the A drive (only) back in, powered it up and voila ... it worked.
Looks like the B drive failed. Now to go buy a relacement drive for B!

Lacie 2 big does,nt boot

Hmmm, reseting worked on mine. Identical symptoms except light stayed blue, not red. Unable to power down.
Before trying to get the drive working I got the data off using the procedure in the second post of this thread:

You need a linux system running. Maybe a live cd will do. I installed on an old IDE drive I had.

I then rest the decive using this procedure from Lacie and my drive is working again. Worthless though, because I can't trust it.

The procedure below will reset the 2Big Network to factory settings:
IMPORTANT NOTE: Following the procedure below can ERASE ALL DATA on the drive. Prior to following these directions, verify important data is stored securely on a different storage device.
Switch the drive OFF. Once it has shut down, ensure the power switch remains in the OFF position.
If the drive is in the SAFE mode, move the RAID switch to the BIG mode.
PRESS AND HOLD the button on the front. MOVE the power switch to the ON position. The light on the front of the drive will start blinking.
Once the light stops blinking, RELEASE the front button.
When released, it will begin BLINKING AGAIN. When it stops, PRESS AND HOLD the front button. The light will begin to blink again.
When the light stops blinking, RELEASE the button. The drive is now resetting itself. Switch the RAID selector back to SAFE if desired.
To restore data if it was lost during the process, recreate the shares and users on the unit prior to the reset. Any firmware updates applied will need to be applied again.

Western Digital World Book 1TB - Lights don't light, HDD vibrates

I would try to connect the drive directly into an ide or a sata cable on the motherboard. Maybe using the western digital tools from their website you'll be able to access the data and copy it. I hope this helps you.

Exactly same problem

check your network for conflicts, check power supply, fan and nic card, if your sure it's not the the drives inside the drive case, I have had 4 of these fail on me @work with different issues power supply nic card and both drives 4 units did the same thing and they were under warranty so when I got it back, I sold them and bought The Seagate BlackArmor NAS 420. no problems with them as of yet. Lacie get hot and components get hot and fail because there is not enough air flow I think.

Blue light on Lacie Drive blinks.

I have seen the power adapters go out on the Lacie external drives and that causes the light to flash. You can check the voltages coming out of the adapter with a multimeter if you have one available. The voltages should be 5 and 12 volts. If you don't get that then the adapter is bad, you can contact Lacie about a replacement adapter or get a generic case and swap your drive to it. If you need a replacement case I have a link to more information about the one we use inshop at

I hope this helps, If so please rate my solution.

Flashing blue rings

The alternating flashing between the inner and outer blue rings means the drive is currently in Raid Degraded mode per KB article 1480. You will need to have your drive serviced. If you are able to access the device's Shared Storage Manager you should find a Drive Status: Drive (A or B) failed. If you can access it, you might be able to re-create the raid by replacing the bad drive (they're labeled A and B internally with a sticker so you'll know which one to replace) -- it's generally recommended that you first go through the warranty process though:

KB Article 915 and KB Article 8 will start you on the RMA process.
