If you have forgotten your BIOS or Hard Drive Password for this model, there is a master code that you can obtain from Dell Support. Simply call, Email, or use Online Chat from and give them your Service Tag, and they can help your out from there. If it is a Windows profile password you have forgotton, try accessing the Administrator account from Safe Mode, and remove the password for the user account locked out.

Hopefully, you have the set of CD/DVD "Dell System Restore" disks.

This might be a good time to purchase a newer, larger, faster, disk-drive, install it,
and load Windows onto it, and keep your current disk-drive as a "fall-back".

Restart your computer, and press F8, and tell the computer to boot from the first of those "System Restore" disks, rather than booting from your 'C:' drive.

The harddrive files seem to be gone and it will not load the OS cd. it keeps saying harddrive not found. what do i do?

When you use OS CD it has to boot, there's nothing like it will not load. Check in the BIOS what is the boot option. If your first boot device is hard disk change it to CD-ROM and then boot your PC. Then you can start reinstalling the OS.

My laptop is a dell 6000 and it says there are no bootable devices

your hard drive has failed, on boot (dell splash screen) press f12 to bring up boot menu, choose diagnostics option, run this and it should confirm hard drive failure on dst short test (drive self test) and give an error code (e.g 2000 - 0142), trust me on this i am a dell field service engineer

My dell inspiron 1525 boots up like normal but when it comes up with where i normally log in, the screen just goes black, but you can still move the cursor, any ideas of what i can do please?

The file which is known as "winloader" is gone bad. You should try to boot your computer with last known good configuration.

To do that, just restart your computer and keep tapping F8. Once you reach the advanced boot option menu you will be able to see the last known good configuration option.
Press enter on that option and your computer will be set to the last configuration on which your system was running fine.

With regards,

My Dell Inspiron 1525 wont load up

I'd suggest first removing your memory modules and reinsert one at a time.

But, I think your operating system is compromised, due to Spyware, etc.

Since your system won't boot in Safe Mode, your only other option is to repair or reinstall your operating system.

Hope this helps.

Dell inspiron 1525 notebook will not start windows

Usually this happens when the vista boot loader fails. During boot up, keep tapping F8 and then select Disable Automatic Restart... and get the stop error code which usually starts with 0x
