I dropped my laptop off my bed and it shutdown.When I tried to restart I get to the password stage,type in my password and it goes no father than saying welcome except on one occasion when it said that there it could not retrieve the critical data file!!!!!please help

It sounds like your hard drive has become faulty due to the shock to the laptop when falling to the ground. If the hard drive is damaged then you're not going to get much joy with it anymore. If you have got a CDROM like Norton Disk Doctor then you could give this a go, but I wouldn't hold much luck!! Probably need a replacement hard drive.
