Document Jam The LCD reads Document Jam. Clear the scanner jam and then press the stop key. There is no paper stuck inside the machine anywhere. I have turned machine off to reset; no luck. When I press the stop key the paper feed cycles and then the error msg comes back.

I finally found a black lever that retracts when the paper placed in the ADF moves over it was stuck in the 'down' position. I took tweezers to pull it back up and unstick it. To find the lever open the ADF look above paper feed roller just to the right of the first metal bar with the spring on it.

Thanks. This saved our office. Exact location of the lever applied to our MFC9840-CDW.

This was the same issue with us, the little black plastic lever that senses when paper is out does not pop back up immediately after last page and leads to the jam. Seeing about fixing the spring

You must have a little piece that broke off or a sensor is blocked with paper dust.

Ok, you won't like it but here goes. Under the ADF there is a tension bar that the pictures move through, I thought the tension maybe an issue so I used some scotch tape on each end to hold the tension bar up so the pics could move more easily. I also found out to stop the jamming I pulled the slides in a far as they would go and created a guide made out of cutt stack of post it's anything that is thick enough to work as a guide to ensure the image was straight will work. I put my stack of pics in portait not landscape as I had taped my guide down so the the images went through straight without a problem. I would call this a design flaw since the slides need to come in closer and to work in portait. As is the landscape will not feed the way is should.

You may want to take out tray 1 and reset the paper guides. I believe the rear guide is mainly the problem. Unlock the rear guide, make sure the rear is very snug before locking it. Place tray back in printer and hit the Stop key if necessary.

See if error goes away.

Most people open the top cover to the ADF (automatic document feeder) and check for debris and report there is nothing there. Check under the ADF sometimes paper gets stuck there as well.

It says there's a paper jam or a scanner misfeed..but there's nothing there

Paper stuck inside the HP All-in-One can cause jams or also sometimes there are some instruction that get stuck in the printer internal mechanism .
Power off the printer , unplug the power cable. Wait for 30 sec. , Replug the power cable. Power on the printer.
Check for a stuck paper or torn bits of paper.
Clear jam from the back of all-in-one
Press in the tab on the left side of the rear door to release the door. Remove the door by pulling it away from the HP All-in-One.Trying to clear a paper jam from the front of the HP All-in-One can damage the print mechanism. Always access and clear paper jams through the rear door.
Gently pull the paper out of the rollers. If the paper tears when you are removing it from the rollers, check the rollers and wheels for torn pieces of paper that might be remaining inside the device. If you do not remove all the pieces of paper from the HP All-in-One, more paper jams are likely to occur.
Replace the rear door. Gently push the door forward until it snaps into place.
Press OK to continue the current job.
Clear the jam from the automatic document feeder (ADF)
Paper can also jam in the automatic document feeder. Follow the steps below to clear a paper jam in the automatic document feeder(ADF)
Lift the cover of the automatic document feeder.
Gently pull the paper out of the rollers.
Reload and test the all-in-one
Once you have removed the jammed paper, verify that the all-in-one is still functioning properly.
Reload the all-in-one with either plain or photo paper.
Print a page from a memory card or the computer.
If you have completed all the steps listed above and are still experiencing a problem contact HP to service the product.

ADF paper jam, when there is none

If you are receiving an Error Code 103 or a Paper Jam error, but there are no pages in the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder), follow the steps below:
  1. Close the scanning application (such as PaperPort)
  2. Turn off the scanner and the computer
  3. If you have a combination ADF with a Flatbed scanner, unplug the ADF cable from the base of the scanner
  4. Plug the ADF cable back in
  5. Turn on the scanner power
  6. Turn on the computer
  7. Try scanning again
For a Paper Jam or Error Code 103, make sure that the ADF cable in the rear is connected to the scanner base. Check the flatbed to make sure that it is clear. A page incorrectly placed on the flatbed may interfere with a page feeding through the ADF.

If your scanner stops scanning due to a paper jam in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), a warning dialog box appears after a few moments.

To clear a paper jam:
  1. Open the Automatic Document Feeder cover.
  2. Remove the jammed paper and close the cover.
If you are receiving a paper jam error, or if the scanner is running continuously, check to make sure the paper sensor arm is not stuck down.
  1. Open the Automatic Document Feeder cover.
  2. Look for the small black plastic arm
  3. When you press on this arm, it should move freely up and down
  4. If the arm is stuck down, please contact Technical Support for troubleshooting options
  5. Close the ADF cover.

LCD Error message: Paper output slot. Thye paper is jammed. clear the paper and press OK.

A jam sensor may be stuck or have something stuck on it, causing the machine to think it is jammed. These sensors are normally located where the paper feeds into the printer, and where the paper exits the printer. Try forcing a sheet of paper through the machine in the direction paper normally. feeds. This may free up the jam sensors.

Make sure there is nothing caught where the documents go it. List up the scanner cover and look inside. It may need a separator pad or clean the feed rollers with some alcohol. Lawrence

Document, Jam???

Hey I figured it out. On the top where you insert paper into the automatic document feeder you will notice a small switch. When paper is set in the tray the switch is pressed down. I noticed on mine that the switch had become stuck down. I just used a small push-pin and popped it up. Error message went away.
