Question about Motorola Mobility RAZR V3

1 Answer

Flip switch location

My phone got wet. I took it apart and dried everything. The one problem I have is that the phone always thinks it is open. I took it apart again to locate the switch and see if I could repair it, but I can't find it.

Is it in the hinge? I saw some contacts on the left hinge, but I don't see how a connection is made or not made to let the phone know it is open. When I removed the piece where you could attach a carrying strap, I noticed a contact on that piece connected to a gold pin going into the spring housing. Inside the lid I noticed a gold pin coming out the other side of the spring housing with a contact that runs from that pin to a foam material wrapped in what seems to be metal wire. The foam piece seems to mate to a contact on the lead for the camera. This actually looks like some sort of ground.

I also looked for some sort of magnetic switch, but nothing looked right.

Any info is appreciated, but I would really like to know how this phone knows when the lid is closed?

Phone got wet, still turns on, works, but seems that power button

If the phone just got a little wet, you better remove the battery and blow dry thru' all the vents in the phone. Wait for atleast an hour and blow dry again. Now connect the battery and test it. If it still turns on automatically, the water is out of your reach and the phone HAS to be opened to dry properly. Please donot work with in this condition or you could lose your phone.

Phone got wet & works fine but says network error

Cell phones do not recover gracefully from getting wet internally. The electronics were not made to get wet.
You would be better served to get a new phone. Getting a cell phone wet is almost alway death to the electronics, even if the phone is dried out completely, The problems caused by the damp electronics will cause strange and intermittent problems.

I got my Palm Centro wet. I took the screws out

do not put your phone in ANY liquid, even rubbing alcohol! any liquid puts your phone at risk of corrosion in places you cannot see. even if it works fine now, that is no guarantee that there is not still small amounts of moisture inside that may still cause damage later. take your phone apart, put all the pieces of your phone in a ziploc bag of uncooked rice, and LEAVE IT IN THERE for at least 24 hours. having the battery in at all when there may be moisture inside puts your phone at risk for more damage. save yourself trouble later by leaving it alone in the rice for as long as you can. two days would be better.

My blackberry pearl flip got wet

Sorry to tell you but the back light on your blackberry pearl probably burnt out. That is one of the most common issues with a wet phone.

You can find blackberry flip 8230 and 8230 LCD screen replacements on ebay. Took a while but they are available now.

They are a little tricky to replace but not to hard.

Checkout the guide I wrote for replacing the blackberry flip LCD displayscreen. There are also links to by the new pearl flip LCD screens2.gif

Dropped phone in water

SIM is probably bad or a little wet. but wait and let everything dry out and see if it works. Mine was soaked and the next morning worked fine. at least you probably won't have to buy a new phone.

Phone won't turn back on

No. There are some sellers on ebay which sell you a kit to clean up water damage on your cell or BB, but it's super hard to do without breaking the device. Even with instructions, it requires you take everything apart etc.. And its like $40-50 for the kit.

Sometimes you get lucky and up to 3 weeks later the device will dry out and work, and I've had some work the next day.. but only about 33% of the time do they come back at all...

Dropped in water

I got my i870 from my sister a week ago, i got it for boost mobile but the ear speaker doesnt work either, i took it apart and i ordered the flip part of the phone which comes with the whole top section. It should work after i put the new part. it was only $26 off of ebay. the parts were only held up five screws. really easy but you have to be careful and gentle.
