Check the cooling fan at the bottem of the laptop see if is working ,also use a can of compressed air and blow out the fan give it a thorough cleaning if need you might have to replace the fan .If you will supply me with a model number I will get instructions on how to disassemble to put in a new fan
try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the CPU central processing unit dust causes static to build up in a computer causing it to overheat any many other problems also you could buy a laptop usb cooling pad 3-LED FAN USB NOTEBOOK LAPTOP COOLING COOLER PAD STAND or something similiar the cooling pads are very cheap and very good thing for your laptop hope this helps
it sounds like your cooling fan has stopped working therefore the cpu is getting too hot to work and will shut the system down have the cooling fan looked at
A laptop locks up or shuts down when it get very hot. The CPU shuts down (thermal overload) when it overheats and will not boot up until it has cooled down. If this problem is not fixed, eventually the CPU will fail.
This problem could be caused be a faulty CPU fan and/or the CPU and heat sink assemble is clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if the fan blade spins freely (it may have a seized bearing), if not replace the fan. If the fan and heatsink is clogged with dust, clean and remove the dust.
If additional cooling is required and there are ventilation grills on the bottom of the laptop, then purchase a laptop cooling pad. Place the laptop on the cooling pad, these pads have fans that direct air into the grills at the bottom of the laptop.
Well I can tell you that in my experience they get real hot too hot in my opinion, however, these days the laptops seem to emit an enormous amount of heat, but it seems to do NO harm, If you are worried get yourself a laptop Cooling Pad, they are cheap, they work, and will keep your unit cooler.
A common problem with all laptop is dust. Sounds like you have 5 years worth of dust stuck in there. You should get a can of compressed air and blow though every vent you can! You want to loosen the dust that's in there and possibly try to blow it out and/or get it closest to the vents.
After that you should take a vaacum cleaner and **** out all the dust you can!
Dust inhibits air flow, alot! Its the number 1 killer of old computers.
if you don't have experience of opening laptop then i'd advice not to do so as i have seen many people carrying half opened laptops in bag to the repair shop. And then some repair shop take advantage by telling some part missing/screw missing etc. and charge more.
take it to repair shop and ask them to change the fan. it should not cost much.
Sometimes depending on the version of BIOS there is a thermal shut down feature,If the CPU gets to hot it will shut the entire system down. What you can do is replace the CPU fan and apply more grease in between the heat sink and the CPU chip.If this does not solve your problem then you may have damaged the CPU.the best way to fix this is to replace the motherboard and CPU.Try replacing the fan first because if your computer has the thermal shut down feature then chances are that it protected the motherboard and CPU from any damage.Try the simple things first! GOOD LUCK.
