Question about LaCie Design by F. A. Porsche 160 GB Hard Drive

2 Answers

Strange noise I've had my porsche 160 gb drive for four years and it has been incredible.  However, today it began a strange beep, trill, almost techno sound effect, which reoccurred once every 5 or 6 seconds.  Now when I turn it on, it doesn't show up on my desktop and the sound persists.  What can I do and is there a way to recover the files.

sounds hopeful. do you have any idea how to open the device? I cannot locate any screws.

  • rustymack Dec 03, 2007

it powers up and the light is orange. When I unhook the HDD powercable, the front light is yellowish. Will recoversoft data rescue pc work for the hard drive although it is formatted for my mac powerbook?

if my firewire HDD does not show up on my computer, how can the data rescuer scan its data? The only option it displays is my internal macintosh hd.

Mine [Lacie Porsche 60 usb Gb] had a fall from table (not so hard) and then started the problem. Lights turn on and the computer shows the dialog " no readable disk " when connected; and the beep. DataRescue has not solved it- Thanks for any help or ideas!

Hey...its actually a simple problem.. your hard disk's power cable is loose.. open your cabinet... just press the HDD's powercable in a little bit..thats all.. this should probably fix the problem.. Well if doesn't work there's an excellent tool called Recoversoft Data Rescue PC google for it and buy it.. it will surely recover your data!
Good luck!
Regards,
Sai.

yes it does.. download a trial version..it scans your HDD and shows whether its contents are in good condition... If they are in good condition the go ahead and buy it.. that piece of code is one thing you can always count on..

hi.
maybe problem is caused by your Power supply.
so i recommend you to do these:
1- remove the main hard drive and only connect "250GB lacie porsche hard drive".
and see is it recognized or not.
2- go to the bios (with pressing "delete key" at start of turning on) and navigate to power center.
then enable power saving mode.

It is making a loud clicking and beeping noise and it won't mount to my macbook.

Loud clicking usually means that the device has failed mechanically. You could try connecting it to another computer, but it's most likely a dead drive. Sorry for the bad news. Steve.

Chain Slipping

Your chain would have to be incredibly loose to slip the sprocket. Enough that it would come off the bar before jumping the teeth on the rear sprocket. Highly unlikely.

Making Clicking noises and not being recognized by computer. This was all of the sudden and was not result of any trauma

I've had this exact same problem with a couple of LaCie drives.

The drive has failed. I would call LaCie Tech support (503) 844-4503 between the hours of 6am and 6pm (Pacific Time) to speak with one of their Technical Support representatives.

If it is still within warranty, they'll send you a new one.

This model comes with a 2-Year Limited Warranty - 1 year factory warranty for products bought before October 1st, 2007

Strange noises, disk won't fully spin or start up...

Your AC adapter is "dying", and must be replaced.
Is it still under "warranty", i.e., you contact LaCie,
get an RMA (Return Materials Authorization) number,
they ship you a new adapter. If you ship them the old adapter,
within a week, they will _not_ charge your credit-card the $30.

Cannot find the lacie driver on my mac

Chances are the drive is bad. Try taking it to another computer- if it doesn't work there, then the prognosis is poor. Data recovery services are available, but pricey.

Lacie 120GB dropped

If you open it up you will see that the drive is a regular computer drive. You should be able to plug it into a computer as a secondary drive and try to get the data off. But if it's clicking and making noises there may be no hope. Sorry!

NO device decteted

Lacie Porsche drives in my experience or infamous for not having the most durable bridge boards. The bridge board is a chip that has a chipset on it which take the SATA or PATA connection and send it to the USB and or Firewire ports on the enclosure. If the drive is powered up, you should get a small red or orange light on the front. When connected to either mac or pc ( porsches are MS_DOS formatted out the box ), if it does not mount or does not appear in DISK UTILTY, then it is a high probability that the enclosure/bridge board has failed and the drive ( if not making grinding, buzzing, clicking or beeping sounds) will have to be extracted and placed into a more stable enclosure. Hope this helps.
