After recording a DVD it didn't give me the option to finalize. After putting the disk back in it asks me if I wish to format. Sounds like that will ruin what I recorded. Any suggestions would be appreciated

This problem also happens when you try to use vide tapes from other countires inside american vcr players and vice versa. The problem is a format incompatibility. There was several differnt dvd formats when dvds were emerging and in some countries they havent updated to the latest format. My solution would be to get a new dvd recorder or try to change the formats of the files on the disks.
this happens all the time on my dvd player. im just about ready to throw it out the window. ive only had it awhile.
i called customer service. they said you need a dvd cleaner to clean the lens. I bought one called dvd dr laser lens cleaner. unfortunately, it rejected that disc as well. you could try it i guess, but good luck. tell me what happens. in the meantime, i'm going to put this piece of garbage up on ebay or throw it out my window. total waste of 300 something dollars. buy the warranty! i didn't and im paying through the nose.
i payed $80 for a new laser about 2 years ago, it did JACK. so, dont do that either. sorry to sound so aggravated, but i have been working on this for a few hours now. i opened it up and tried to look at the lens. looks fine. good luck.
I had a similar problem about 2 years ago, if not exactly the same. At that time I was able to call Cyberhome and got a helpful person on the other end. He explained to me that some brands of disks do not record with the 1600. He told me to use Verbatim disks (+R or +RW of course). I have had no problem with the unit at all since using Verbatim disks. I have also found that Imation works well also, at least the +RW's. The unit will not format a Maxell disk. Hope this helps.
