I had the exact same problem listed in this thread.
This is what I found on another site to fix it.
Make sure your M240 is not connected to the computer.
Then go into the "settings" menu and then go to the "usb" part.
Then Select "MSC" from the menu, instead of "Auto Select (or something like that).
Then turn off your player and connect it to the Win XP computer and it will be fully recognized
and you can then go to My Computer and see it there and use it.

The drivers for the M240 are native to Win XP. The issue is exactly as ColumbiaCali states, a setting on the Sansa M240 itself. Specifically the USB setting is on Auto instead of MSC. Follow the directions in the post and everything will work without and driver instal.

yo tengo el mismo problema, mi PC no reconoce a mi dispositivo Sansa ... he tratado de buscar la opcion de Setting / USB y cambiarle de MTP (reconoce el PC) por MSC y nada... comopuedo hacer reconocer le dispositivo en mi PC.

to bsrjth that does not work i have the same issue i have not found a solution yet.....really too much money & way too many problems... i recommend a psp instead
