My backlight keeps going out on toshiba satilite 1800 i suspeci the inverter is loose as when you tap the toshiba logo it stays on for a while so does anyone know how to open this laptop so i can check...

Here is an informative guide on disassembling your laptop.

If you order a new screen assembly from Ebay for it (just search "toshiba 1800 screen") then you could install it using this guide.

I would rate this as intermediate/advanced in terms of difficulty. It's not overly hard, but any messing up might mean you break the ribbon connectors or the screen.

Be careful!

Also, word to the wise: if it is under warranty or even close, call toshiba and plead with them first. Be polite, it goes a long way.

The screen on my HP compaq nc8000 laptop goes blacks usually after the screen has been closed. the screen is very dark after is hardly visible except when squinting. does anyone know what the problem is or...

The culprit will be the inverter board of your LCD screen that drives the backlight, my nc8000 shows the same symptoms after 6 years of heavy daily usage. After pressing the LID sensing button near the right hinge the backlight usually remains on, but sometimes you have to press it several times under a minute once it finally stays on. The proper fix would be to disassemble the screen and replace the inverter board, as the LCD and the CCFL backlight tubes are perfectly fine in my case.

On how to remove the screen from the laptop, you can get help from this HP guide:
http://bizsupport.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00803690/c00803690.pdf
(it's in section 5-35, that starts on page 128)

Unfortunately, I can't help you out on the other part, on how to disassemble the screen itself (but I suspect it has 4 or 6 screws under the rubber "feets" on its front), and I can't help you out in fixing the inverter board itself either...
If you want to fix the board yourself, you have to be able to wield the soldering iron perfectly, and your goal will be to replace some capacitors (they are usually bulging, so you can identify them being the culprit by the naked eye too).
The other option is to order a replacement inverter board, and simply swap the bad with the new one, it is still more economical than to buy a new display assembly as a whole; some chinese manufacturers are available, but I bet you can find some source more closely to your current location, just google for:

My hp dv9000 wont start, even with the battery or with the charger IS PLUG it doesnt still start up.THE LIGHTS WILL JUST BLINK FOR JUST 2 SE4CONDS AND IT TURNS OFF AGAIN.

Unfortunately it sounds like your motherboard is toast. The DV9000 and the DV6000 use prmarilly the same motherboard and these have been fraught with problems that HP has been unwilling to fix. The good news is these are relatively easy to replace with a good guide, basic tools and patience. Below is a link to the service guide that will help with the disassembly....

HP DV9000 My laptop screen is loose i would

When the laptop is flipped over, remove the battery. Under the battery there are 6 screws placed in pairs, these have to be removed. Once these are removed, the speaker and power strip can be pryed up, start with your finger nails on the right side and pop it off. Be careful with the flat cable in the middle of the strip. Tighten the screws for the display there and I think there are some that tighten from the bottom. Also, remove the rubber pads from the screen bezel and remove the screws from the screen bezel, then pry the bezel off at a corner and work your way around the bezel until it is removed. It will somply snap back on when you are finished. Tighten all the screws you see that connect to the hinges, this is wher the screen loosens alot. Just pay attention to the wires that feed through the bezel from the screen to the motherboard. Take your time, nothing to it.
