Question about Bionaire BH3900-U Oil Filled Radiator Heater

1 Answer

Switch bad? Our Bionaire Bh3900 u has a control switch for off, low and high.  The switch no longer clicks in at these settings.  With a little adjustment, you can get the heater to come on in between these two settings, but it is only working in the 'low' mode.  Can the switch be repaired by my husband?  The item is out of warranty.  Obviously the heater function is still operable.

where cah I get a new switch?

  • sweetlewb Mar 03, 2008

I had the same problem. When I took the switch apart, the wire for the 'high' setting looked like it had been burnt. I emailed Bionaire and am going to try a small appliance repair shop this week. If anything helps, I'll be sure to repost.

Click headlights to low beam and no lights work on high beam

I'm not sure exactly what your problem is. When you "click" your lights to low beam, your high beams should not work. But if your low beams work when you "click" them on, but your high beams don't work when you "click" them on, you either have a blown fuse, bad relay or high beam elements burned out on both lamps. (Not so unusual) Possibly a bad "dimmer" stalk switch or bad wiring, too, but a little less likely.

Our hunter fan won't work on high speed any longer, low and medium speed work fine, when clicked on high - it only goes at medium

Sounds like the variable speed switch may be worn out.
You should be able to purchase replacement switch at the local home depot- type store in the electrical supplies.
Trying to get an exact match to replace may be a bit difficult, but a similar 3 speed switch should work just fine.

Ceiling fan stuck on high

I found out that the capacitor and switch is shortened. I un-shortened, and it got to low, mediium, and off.

Heater blower went out?

Either the blower went bad or the heater relay went bad. This does not sound like a heater core problem unless you where smelling a SWEET smell when it was running.

Bionaire BH3950 Does not heat

I'm not an expert, but I have two of these units that are working fine.

The on/off switch (the top switch) has a light in it that illuminates when the heater is on and heating. If this light comes on and there is no heat, then the element is probably burned out.

The heater has a safety switch that prevents the unit from working if it is not upright. If the heater was stored for any length of time on its side, the safety switch might have stuck in the off position. Unplug the heater and with the heater upright, try shaking it or slapping it firmly with your hand to se if this fixes the problem.

If none of this works, then as sunmasc says, the thermostat is bad.
