Re: bulb never lights up,

Hi The option you have is to check and make sure the connection between the formatter and scanner formatter are properly seated. The 79 error you are getting means you should try and do a firmware upgrade it could be giving you a problem and more than likely fix the issue.

Scanner Error - Power On Power Off

The "scanner warming up" error is usually caused by dirty glass or mirrors in the scanner assembly. Here is a link to a step by step guide that tells how to open the scanner unit and clean the optics to clear the error.

Hello, The scanner & photocopier were not working and the screen was just stuck on the "scanner bulb warming up". Then, after days of trouble shooting, it finally began making a noise,...

From what you described it sounds like you need to get the "scanner assembly" replaced.
The bulb is probably bad and won't come on to full power.
Not knowing what kind of printer you have, probably won't change the fix. If you can look at the event log you may be able to see an error code which could make it a definite scanner assembly replacement.
If you want to throw money at this unknown printer, get a tech to look at it and give you an estimate.

Scanner bulb warnning

The 'scanner warming up' error is caused by dirty scanner optics. What happens is the scanner initializes the lamp and starts reading the scanner pickup waiting for the light to get to a certain brightness level. When the optics get dirty from dust or smoke then the light getting to the scanner pickup is reduced so the unit thinks the scanner bulb has not reached the correct brightness so it says wait. What you will need to do is dis-assemble the top portion and clean the scanner optics. We have a step by step guide to do this procedure posted on our web site at: This should get you back going again.

I hope this helps you out, if so please rate our solution.

Hp fax model 3330 is broken . At first it was very slow to warm up bulb and finally it stopped working all together and the screen says scanner error power on - off. The cancel light is blinking and...

You are correct with your diagnostics, he problem is caused by dirty optics. The mirrors in the scanner have dust, lint or smoke on them. When the scanner powers up it tries to calibrate itself and waits for the bulb to warm up so the light output gets to a certain level. With the dirty optics the scanner never gets enough light so it thinks the scanner is still warming up and so it waits for the light to get brighter. After a few minutes of waiting and not getting the correct level of light it gives the power off message. We have a dis-assembly and cleaning guide with step by step instructions posted on our web site at: This procedure takes about 30 minutes to complete but it should et you back going again.

I hope this helps, If so please rate our solution.

My 3330 says scanner bulb is warming up then it gives me a error 79 message no ,matter how many times i restart it

The error 79 on that machine means that the scanner assembly has failed to align/calibrate. Could be due to a bad calibration strip on the scanner glass, have you ever sprayed glass cleaner directly onto the scanner glass? If so this can stain the calibration strip and render the scanner useless. It is probably best to have the machine serviced by HP.

This error is caused by either a dirty scanner mirror or a dirty scanner glass. Hp 3055 no lingt on the control pannel, no power up, no warm up, it just like pluck off machine. nothing comes on.. what is the problem? anyone experience it? please give me a hand... thanks

Hi benkoh76: Here is your problem. Troubleshooting checklist Follow these steps when trying to solve a problem with the all-in-one. Step number Verification step Possible problems Solutions 1 Is the power on? When the all-in-one is connected to a grounded power source and is turned on, the control panel shows Hewlett-Packard with moving cursors indicating that the firmware code is loading, and the main motor rotates for approximately 45 to 60 seconds. When the firmware is done loading, Scanner bulb warming up might appear on the control-panel display, and the scan head moves back and forth for 10 to 15 seconds. If you lift the scanner cover, you will see that the scanner bulb is lit. Near the end of this time, the ADF motor turns on for about two seconds. No power as a result of a failed power source, cable, switch, or fuse. 1. Verify that the all-in-one is plugged in. 2. Verify that the power cable is functional and that the power switch is on. 3. Check the power source by plugging the all-in-one directly into the wall or into a different outlet. Motor does not start. 1. Verify that the all-in-one is plugged into a working electrical receptacle. 2. Verify that the print cartridge is installed correctly. Follow the instructions on the control panel to remove and replace the cartridge. 3. Verify that the top cover is closed. ADF motor does not start. Open the ADF cover and remove any orange shipping tape inside the ADF. Verify that the ADF connector is connected correctly to the scanner. If the ADF motor still does not rotate, replace the ADF. Scanner bulb does not light. If the scanner bulb does not light, verify that the wire-harness connectors from the scanner to the formatter are connected correctly. If the error persists, replace the following components one at a time until the problem is resolved: scanner assembly, formatter. Hope this helps

Fax and cancel lights are flashing

I found this solution at HP website. It worked for me. Good luck!

A Scanner Bulb Error message is received as a result of the HP LaserJet 3300mfp series product scanner’s inability to find the home reference point.
Perform the following steps to walk the scan assembly from the home base and resolve the issue.
1. Remove and replace the power cord from the unit.
2. Wait approximately 35 seconds for the scanning assembly to “walk out" and then quickly remove the plug again.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2, three to four times until the head moves approximately 1 inch away from its normal resting place.
4. Replace the plug and let the product fully finish the boot cycle.

Scanner error 6

Scanner errors are as follows for that model:

Scanner error #

1 = dark find
2 = LMW temp find
3 = bulb warm up from off
4 = bulb warm up from coarse
5 = cal label find
6 = doc original find
7 = LMW final find
8 = cal label find after scan
9 = cal label find prior to standby
10 = doc original find prior to standby
11 = bulb warm up from standby

I would see if there is an original on the flatbed glass (platen), or if something is obstructing the scanner view.

If the error persists, replace the scanner
assembly or the formatter pcb
