Wharfdale DVDRHD400 dvd recorder with 80gb hard drive

Had this 2years with no problems until now. Now when I record to the hard drive it records picture of one channel and sound of another channel.
My set up is tv av 1 to input on digi box in, db out to dvd in, dvd out to tv
av 2. This way I can watch on channel and record another at the same time.
I have changed all scart leads just incase but no joy.
any help would be apriciated.

What precautions should I take concerning laser rays if I open the case to investigate the problem.?

  • big-daddy32 Dec 05, 2007

To explain why I want to open the recorder I must tell you the whole story . I bypassed the digi box and connected dvd directly to tv and recording was fine,no problems, this suggested to me that there may be a problem with the digi box so I then reconnected digi box and replace the dvd with my old vcr to test the scart link up I am using and this works just fine, correct sound with correct picture. This suggest that the digi box was ok.This now looks like a problem with the link between digi box and dvd. I now suspect a problem with the input scart socket on the dvd maybe a bent pin in the socket. That is why I want to open the dvd to inspect the socket.

Also I don't understand what trylove 11 means when he talks about audio hookup. I understood that vido and audio were both carried through the scart lead. How can I separate them?

Hope this helps to understand my problem.
    Ron

I find I agree with troylove, your problem is config or hookup issue, cant see any point in opening it up what do you think you could posssibly find by doing so? Laser is fine unless you look in directly at it

Yes most scart cables carry both audio and video but not all, some have all pins wired some dont depends on what application they are design for here is a LINK explain wiring of scarts, so it might be an idea to check your cables and ensure they are fit for the task, there is no problem with laser radiation unless you look at laser light directly when operating so have no fear with your cover removal, but I be more inclined to suspect the leads but then again you do tell us they work with the video, so maybe it aint a bad idea after all, use a multimeter from each pin on cable end to leads exiting socket to test continuity.

You can use alternate cabling on most systems like rca jacks (white, red, yellow,) aka video/audio Left/ audio Right to do same job as the scart

    Cheers

Sounds like if you are getting the right Video and not audio then the audio are hooked in wrong. Unless you are on SAP (Second audio program) in this case take it off of Sap. If you are getting the sound that you are looking at once you change channels to view another program, then it should be easy. Just change audio jacks back to AV1, 2, 3 etc depending on which one you are using. Hope this helps!

Did someone request that you open, or you just want to on your own. I would not open unless there is a problem inside unit. Yes lasers are harmful to your eyes if you make contact. Your problem sounds like a setting up or menu.

WHARFEDALE DVDRHD400

when you have split and seperated the part of the viceo you want to put onto a dvd, highlight it on the list of recordings and press the blue "playlist +" button on the remote. This will have added the recording onto the list of items to be recorded to dvd. Now press the red "RECORD/DUB" button. This will then record the file to the disc.

When y ou are notified that the process is complete, you will need to finalise the disc in order for it to be playable on other machines.
While the DVD is still in the drive uses the blue "function" button, and select DVD.
Shortly a list of titles on the DVD you have recorded will appear. Press the "UP" arrow on the remote once and a new menu will appear. One of the options here is to finalize disc. hilght this option and click the "RIGHT" arrow once - press "select" to finalise the disc.
