Dell XPS M1710 Laptop Screen Flashing In Full Screen Gaming

Hello, I have an annoying problem with my Dell XPS M1710 Laptop Screen with a maximum Hi-Res of 1920X1200. When playing games in "Full Screen Mode" it flickers / flashes in a consistant pulse at about once every 1/2 a second or so, making the game impossible to play. But if I change to windows mode and play games in that mode, they work fine. This is a problem though, as some games I would like to play are only in full screen mode and cannot be changed to windows mode.

Any advice, assistance or help in this matter would be most appreciated as I have searched the internet and found similar screen problems but not the actual same.

I have a Dell XPS M1710 laptop that was originally Windows XP (maybe Media Center Edition, I'm not sure) and had Windows 7 Ultimate on it. I had to wipe the hard drive and I downgraded to Windows

Hello the driver can be downloaded here:

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/Product/xps-m1710

Or here at nvidia:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_notebook_winxp_179.48_beta.html

Please check for other drivers missing in the device manager.
Check also for the right driver, because here is 2 different ones.

Try the nvidia page first, this should work for you.

Good luck

Dell m1710 xps will not boot, grey screen only. battery light, num lock lights work and hd lighyt flashes momentarly, then goes off.

Are you certain the laptop is not booting? I had one the other day, customer thought it wasnt booting, but it was the LCD screen that was bad. She had only a gray screen too. Something to try, with the screen up, put your hand on the top of the LCD (fingers on the plastics on the back side, thumb on the screen at about the same position) about 4-5 inches from the left edge and squeeze gently. Does the screen change at all, vertical or horizontal color lines? If it really is NOT booting, try F12 when first powering up and if you get to the boot menu, choose diagnostics, run them and see if you get any errors.

I have a Dell XPS M1710 laptop. The touch pad does not work.

Unless it is a hardware fault open the control panel>system>mice and uninstall the touchpad. Then rebott. It should solve the problem.

Laptop battery charge indicator flashing amber and green

If the battery is hot from being used in your computer or being in a hot environment, the battery may not charge when you connect the computer to an electrical outlet. The battery is too hot to start charging if the batter15.jpg light flashes alternately orange and green. Disconnect the computer from the electrical outlet and allow the computer and the battery to cool to room temperature. Then connect the computer to an electrical outlet to continue charging the battery.

XPS M1710

Sounds like you have a driver issue that is conflicting with a current setting. Do you play games that are very demanding on your video resources? What you can do is uninstall the driver or roll it back and restart the computer. Helps if you have the driver file for which ever video card you have, I have the 7950gtx and it never had any problems with Left 4Dead or Unreal Tournament. I keep a notebook cooler handy when I'm gaming.

Black screen

It sounds as though the screen went out if you have access to a monitor and you have a vga plug on your computer try to hook it up to the other monitor and see if you are able to see anything. Sometimes when you hook up to an external monitor you will need to push the associated funtion keys. like i said if images show up then it is the screen on the laptop. If nothing shows up then it is the video hardware. If this is the case you will probably need to buy a new notebook since these are not normally changeable.
