In you owner / operator manual you will find step by step
instructions and cautions as to how to handle the lamp replacement.A plastic door panel will be removable and then a
lock screw loosened and lamp assembly pulled out....Be sure
you purchase the lamp assembly complete, not just the lamp.

How do i know if bulb is bad

firstly, confirm your lamp is AC or DC lamp, then note the front-end of lamp core, whether it reveal the blackened.
generally, if the lamp core was bad, always have some mark on the foot of lamp, carefully check it whether it has some white air bubble.

certianly, if you are convenient, you can DIY a lamp power for testing the lamp by yourself.

Sounds like your lamp/bulb is about ready to die. Here is a google shopping list for some replacements if you choose to DIY. http://www.google.com/search?q=Mitsubishi+WD-60735+replacement+bulb&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#q=Mitsubishi+WD-60735+replacement+bulb&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=XxY&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&prmd=ivns&source=univ&tbm=shop&tbo=u&sa=X&ei=k7KtTZP4A4jk0QGYm6jHCw&ved=0CHwQrQQ&biw=1366&bih=650&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=30e0fb8dc28dda8
Also if you need help on the DIY just come back. But a detailed reinstall can be found in the manual starting on page 75 which if you don't have can be found here:http://www.mitsubishi-tv.com/pdf/ownersguides/WD-60735.pdf. Also on that page is a part number and phone number to get replacement direct from Mitsubishi. Good Luck!

Screen is dead on A105-S4104 laptop. External monitor works fine. How do I check to make sure that there is not just a loose cable?

This could be a faulty video cable or connector or CCFL lamp or inverter.
Try reseating the video cable/connector that connects to the motherboard first.
If this doesn't work then to determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
